On the tennis court, the sunlight spilled over the synthetic surface, giving it a pale, washed-out glare.
Rowan casually tossed his suit jacket onto the bench on the sidelines. His tall, athletic frame practically radiated an untamed, predatory energy, his sharp features carrying an undeniable, unapproachable arrogance.
Sylvia and her sister, Lena, were watching from the rest area.
Lena's gaze shifted between the two strikingly handsome men on the court, drawing the attention of practically everyone around them. She quipped, "This is a clash between titans. With my terrible grades in school, I wouldn't even dare look my future brother-in-law in the eye. He'd realize I'm an idiot in one second."
Sylvia laughed softly at her sister's joke.
After a few games, it became clear that while Zane Sutton was incredibly handsome, his stamina was nowhere near Rowan's. He was losing almost every volley toward the end. The couple of points he did score seemed to have been intentionally conceded by Rowan.
"Sylvia, the guy you snagged is amazing!" Lena said. "My Zane just can't keep up."
Sylvia smiled gently. "Zane is doing great."
They were just playing to relax, after all. Nobody was taking the score too seriously.
Lena playfully grabbed her sister's arm. "I'm going to rely on you and my brother-in-law to protect me from now on."
"Are you and Rowan going to take your wedding photos soon?"
Sylvia's cheeks flushed slightly, a shy smile touching her lips. "He has a business trip. We'll take them when he gets back."
Lena looked at her earnestly. "He's your first love. I really didn't expect you to get exactly what you wanted so quickly. Congratulations."
Sylvia offered another soft smile, a tender joy glowing in her eyes.
When they stepped off the court, Sylvia handed Rowan a bottle of water. He took it, offered a brief word of thanks, and took a few token sips.
After resting for a moment, Zane threw out an invitation. "It's rare we all get together. Let's grab dinner."
Rowan glanced down at his watch, his tone flat. "Let's call it a day here. I leave for my trip tomorrow, and I still have some work to finish up at the office."
Zane raised an eyebrow. "You don't even have time for a quick meal?"
"Yeah," Rowan replied dismissively. He grabbed his jacket from the bench, gave Sylvia a brief nod goodbye, and turned to leave.
Rowan didn't even offer to drive Sylvia home, leaving her feeling a twinge of disappointment.
