She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 96

Caspian noticed the unfamiliar woman lingering in a private sanctuary that was usually strictly off-limits to strangers.

Jasmine turned to Rowan, her voice soft. "Could I borrow this to read?"

Rowan took the book from Caspian and handed it over. "Keep it."

Jasmine smiled. "Thank you."

She was thoroughly pleased with his reaction. It was concrete proof that Lyra meant absolutely nothing to him.

Nearby, Charles finished murmuring something to Alistair.

The older man's temper flared. "Tell her to get out!"

Jasmine flinched, hugging the book to her chest as her smile faltered.

Fiercely protective, Rowan's expression immediately hardened, his jaw setting into an unforgiving line.

"Let's go," Rowan said, taking Jasmine's arm to guide her downstairs. "Take the day off. I'll take you out."

"No, I can't," Jasmine said, pulling her hand away. "I'll wait for you at the office. Please... don't fight with your grandfather."

But Rowan was not about to let his girlfriend leave alone.

He grabbed a coat, taking her hand again as they walked out on the workday together.

...

Meanwhile, across town.

Lyra powered through a marathon of meetings at Fairchild Holdings.

In one fell swoop, she axed several non-core divisions that had been bleeding money.

She knew for a fact that those specific projects would never turn a profit in the coming years.

Naturally, Arthur opposed the drastic move, sparking a heated debate between father and daughter.

But Lyra simply pulled up the core data from the past six months. The numbers didn't lie—the return on investment was abysmal.

Arthur tried to argue that they would eventually become profitable, urging her to look past the short-term losses. Lyra firmly refused.

No one understood the next few years better than she did.

She was practically cutting off the conversation with zero hesitation.

It seemed Lyra truly didn't care about her cousin's romantic entanglements anymore.

For a brief moment, Maisie had suspected Lyra only helped her to score points with Rowan.

Now, that theory seemed completely baseless.

Eager to stay on her good side, Maisie quickly typed out another message. *If you ever want to know anything, just ask!*

*I can be your spy on the inside.*

Just as she expected, the screen stayed dark. Lyra didn't reply.

The conversation was definitively over.

Maisie scrunched her face in frustration.

She hadn't even worked up the courage to mention the best part—that afternoon, her mother had spent hours praising Jasmine to her grandfather.

Unfortunately, her grandfather hadn't listened to a word of it and had instead blown up at her mother.
