"She used to dote on Rowan and do whatever she was told," Victoria continued, her disappointment palpable. "But the second Jasmine appeared, her true colors came out. If she keeps acting this selfishly, it won't just be Rowan who prefers Jasmine. Even you and I will have to reconsider..."
Charles chuckled softly. "Lyra isn't that bad. She's just young and throwing a tantrum. The real question is how far Rowan is willing to go for this relationship. If he actually manages to triple the company's revenue, Dad might not be so completely opposed. It's rare for your son to be this obsessed with a woman. I have a feeling he's going to shock us all."
Early the next morning, Lyra pulled into the hospital parking lot. She texted Caspian, who was already inside, asking him to come down so they could walk in together.
A few minutes later, Caspian appeared.
They met up, laced their fingers together, and walked hand-in-hand straight into Alistair's room.
Propped up on his hospital bed, Alistair stared at their intertwined hands. A heavy silence filled the room.
"Lyra, are you serious about this?"
Lyra gave a firm nod.
"Alright, then we'll hold the wedding as soon as possible," Alistair suggested, testing the waters.
Caspian glanced toward the doorway as Rowan walked in. "I'm still finishing my studies. Plus, it's only right that the eldest marries first. I won't settle down until Rowan does."
Alistair waved a dismissive hand, letting out a weary sigh before telling them to leave.
Rowan's dark gaze swept over their joined hands before he looked away, his expression unreadable. He was instructed to stay behind, and Lyra had no interest in whatever conversation transpired next.
She had made her stance perfectly clear.
A few days later, Alistair's condition stabilized, and he was cleared to go home.
...
On the day of his discharge, Jasmine arrived at the hospital to show her support.
This time, Alistair didn't fly into a rage.
He simply refused to acknowledge her presence.
Tabitha burst into laughter.
"She acts like she doesn't care just to save face, but she's probably losing her mind in private. Has she reached out to you?"
Jasmine shook her head. "She knows it wouldn't do any good. I'm not going to sacrifice the love of my life for a friendship."
"Good," Tabitha sneered. "At least she knows her place."
"It seems like she's backing down. When Alistair was in the hospital, she could have easily used the guilt trip to force a wedding with Rowan, but she didn't..."
"Don't let your guard down," Tabitha warned sharply. "That could be exactly what she wants. She might be playing hard to get."
Jasmine merely shrugged.
Whether Lyra had genuinely given up or was just playing a strategic game, it made no difference.
She was fully confident in her ability to keep Rowan anchored by her side forever.
