The valet opens the door and-BAM-blinding flashes hit me square in the face. The Saints Club looks insane tonight, and I swear the press is everywhere. I am heading out of the car first to help Nisha with her dress, keep things smooth before cameras start snapping her and Baxter but apparently, the photographers didn’t get the memo.
I barely step out and a swarm of reporters surrounds me. I freeze, thinking it’s for Nisha, until microphones are shoved in my face and questions start raining down like bullets.
“Jennifer Marie, right? You broke the internet earlier with that picture of you and Harvey Prescott! Are you part of the family now?”
“How long have you and Harvey been dating?”
“Jennifer! Will you and Harvey be getting married soon? Which Prescott son do you think will inherit the business?”
“How does it feel dating the man they call ‘Mafia of the North”?”
Wh-what!?
“I’m…” I stammer, blinded by the hot, white flashes. My eyes are watering. I can’t see anything but light. “Please,” I try to push through, but it’s like not working.
I hear Baxter’s voice somewhere, shouting. Some bouncers start wading in, but it’s slow. I can barely see, can barely breathe, can barely think.
“Look here, Jennifer!” one yells, and I feel myself panic.
Then, like a miracle, the crowd splits. The lights stop blinding me as if they are focusing on someone else so I lower my hand from my face.
Harvey is walking out of the club. Alone. Smoke curls from the cigarette between his lips. He doesn’t look at the press. He doesn’t look at anyone but me. He walks straight through the gap they made until he’s right in front of me. He takes my hand.
I expect the reporters to start yelling questions at him, but they don’t. It’s like the moment he takes my hand, they’re afraid to breathe. He pulls me along, and I follow like a kid caught in a storm of silver and smoke.
We enter the club and the security closes it after us. Suddenly it’s just him and me. He leans me gently against
the wall.
“You good?”
Even with my cars still ringing, I can focus on his dangerous, flawless face. He’s got silver neck pieces resting over his hoodie and his cologne is all I can smell.

My brain freezes. Mouth-to-mouth? Like…kissing?

Before I can even answer, his mouth is on mine. He holds my face, and I grab onto his hoodie. My fingers curl into the fabric. I taste mint and something darker…just him. I moan into the kiss, and he deepens it, his tongue sweeping against mine until I’m gasping for air, for anything, until he finally pulls back.
He smiles wickedly and wipes my gloss off his lips while I’m busy panting.
“Good. That means you’re breathing.”
I push against his chest, embarrassed. “I-uh…”
“You came here to work?” he says smoothly, and I laugh softly, ready to tease him back but then someone interrupts.
“Boss, we need you.”
“Coming.” He doesn’t even glance at the intruder. Instead, his eyes stay on me. I’m wearing a sparkly white t- shirt and a pink beaded skirt that barely reaches mid-thigh. Tinka said it made my ass look “extra,” and I admit…I picked it just for him.
“Hmm. You look good. Hot. I like it.”
And just like that, my stomach twists. He hasn’t even seen the back.
He backs away slowly, eyes locked on me the whole time before he finally walks off. I shove my hands through my hair, trying to get myself under control, but my body is betraying me. I’m hot and cold at the same time.
I notice my lips feel sticky have no gloss anymore which he swallowed, and then…oh no. Just from a kiss, my nipples are poking through my shirt. I gasp softly, mortified, and use my hair to cover myself as best I can.
The rest of the team finally fights through the crowd and pours inside.
“Omg, that was crazy!” Flora comes running toward me, boots clacking against the marble floor.
“What happened outside….after I left?”
“The reporters were scared of Harvey. That’s what happened.” Max says, coming in with a group of Baxter’s invites. He nods toward us. “See your girls,” he heads off to help with the bachelor side.
Alexa and Brooke finally get here too, looking frazzled but ready to go.
Emily, Harvey’s half-sister rushes over and hugs me, selfie stick in her hand. “I’m live! Say hi!”
“Hi!” I wave at the camera that’s buzzing with Likes, hearts, and gift notifications.
The staff leads us to the bridal shower area. Eighty percent of Nisha’s invites are already here. Like she said, top influencers, friends, and those who flew in for the wedding. Pink booths, tables, even the dance floor. It’s ridiculously beautiful.

We wait for Nisha to arrive, and the moment she does, they all leap up and yell, “Happy bridal shower!”
I overheard that the boys are somewhere upstairs. At some point, the bridal shower and bachelor party will join, and the chaos of the night will stretch on.
Flora and I head straight for the food aisle-we’ve been running around all day, and I’m about to pop a grape in my mouth when I hear it…
“Jennifer!” Nisha yells my name.
“Shoot.” I take a deep breath before heading toward Nisha and her friends.
“Omg, you’re…Harvey’s girlfriend, right?” one of Nisha’s friends squeals.
“And I swear I’ve seen you in a magazine. De…”
“De Claire.” I finish for her, noting the recognition in their eyes.
“Omg, you should sit with us. Let’s chill,” another says, trying to be friendly.
“No!” Nisha glares at me. “Her and her team are here to make sure I look perfect. Now help me take my shoes off. I wanna put on my next dress,”
Her friends fall silent, clearly caught between supporting her and being polite. She expects me to shrink under her glare, but I don’t.
“Ugh, future Mrs. Prescott.” one of them mutters, feeding Nisha’s ego.
“Yesss…”
“Tell us, does your future mother-in-law like you?”
“Of course she does. She’s already telling me I need to give her a grandchild,” Nisha says smugly.
“Are you serious?!”
“Awwwn.” another coos, swooning over her.
“Would you guys be living together? I heard the Prescott home is insane. It hit the biggest houses on Forbes this year.”
“I don’t know. It will be whatever I want, sooo….” Nisha tosses her hair to the side, and it slams right into my face.
As her friends continue to gush, I slip her shoes off and rise from my knees to put them neatly back in their boxes.
“I’ll help her get into the dress.” Flora whispers.
“Why are you here!? Jennifer’s gonna get me into the dress, not you! Now, scoot,” Nisha snaps again.

“Anything for our client.” I say with a smile.
Before I can even help her, Nisha pushes me away with her hand.

“There you are!” she calls over her shoulder, running toward a friend who just arrived. I look back. It’s the girl from the amusement park.
The one who was hiding with them away from the clown. Her name was Jenny.
The moment I lock eyes with her, she waves at me with an easy smile.
“Hi, Jen.”
Nisha twists her neck to look at me when Jenna greets.
“You know her!?”
