Chapter 188

Chapter 188

Seeing the shock on Layla’s face, Atlas quickly said, “Zee, turn up the heat. Make sure Layla doesn’t catch a chill”

The innocent Al, Zee, hurried to respond, “On it, Atlas.”

Atlas withdrew his psychic force, and Zee set the room temperature back to normal.

Then the couple just stared at each other, both wide-eyed.

Layla couldn’t help but feel both amused and exasperated. Atlas had actually triggered his powers just because he was afraid her dad might take her away.

She turned to Atlas, concern written all over her face. “Are you feeling weird anywhere? Should we get Colonel Gill to check you out?”

Andrew was Atlas’s trusted confidant, someone he could rely on.

Layla had heard before about people whose psychic force went haywire when trying to awaken their abilities, and some of them ended up losing their minds.

She was really worried about Atlas.

Atlas frowned, worry etched on his face, “What about your dad?”

“Let’s just put that aside for now. He’s not about to burst in and haul me off,” Layla said. “Let’s have Andrew check you out first.”

“Alright,” Layla replied.

Atlas used the moment to gather his thoughts.

While they waited for Andrew to arrive, Layla nervously asked in a hushed voice, “So now that you know who my dad is. Are you thinking about divorcing me?”

Atlas blinked in surprise, then shook his head. “Divorce? Layla, from the moment we got married, that thought never even crossed my mind,” he said, sounding genuinely baffled.

Layla could tell he meant every word.

Honestly, she was the one who kept bringing up divorce before.

A few minutes later, Andrew rushed in, looking anxious. He’d thought something had happened to Atlas, and when he heard Atlas might have awakened his powers, he was both excited and worried.

He quickly said, “Your Highness, please lie down in the medical pod I need to run a full-body scan and check your vitals

Prince Atlas’s Manor had a state-of-the-art medical bay, stocked with all the essential equipment.

Layla stood nearby, her worry written all over her face as she waited.

Andrew glanced at the readings, which were shooting up off the charts. There was excitement in his eyes, but also a hint of

worry.

“Your Highness, I’m not sure if you’ve actually awakened your powers yet. What exactly happened? Can you control it?” he

asked.

Atlas shook his head, keeping his voice steady. “I was holding Layla and got a bit emotional. Suddenly, the room

temperature dropped. It only went back to normal after I settled my psychic force down”

Layla couldn’t help but feel a little awkward. ‘Why does it sound like we were doing something way too exciting in the study when Atlas says it like that?’ she thought.

Andrew, ever the professional, listened carefully to every detail, then compared the data before suggesting. “Your Highness, could you try getting emotional again?”

After making the suggestion, he shot a look at Layla.

Layla, who was usually pretty strong-willed, quickly cleared her throat and said, “I-I’ll just step out for a bit.”

If he wants to get Atlas excited, he’ll have to figure out another way

‘No way am I volunteering for that,’ she thought.

But as soon as she stepped out of the medical bay, Layla finally remembered. Atlas had only gotten all emotional because he thought her dad was coming to take her away.

It wasn’t about the two of them spending their rut together or anything like that.

Once Layla was gone, Atlas looked at Andrew and focused his psychic force again. This time, the temperature only dropped by several degrees Fahrenheit, not nearly as much as before.

Andrew’s eyes lit up behind his glasses. “Your Highness, can you already control your powers?”

“For now, this is all I can do. I can’t really control it well yet, but I have a feeling this isn’t all there is to it,” Atlas replied.

‘If all I can do is lower the temperature a few degrees Fahrenheit, any smart AC could pull that off, Atlas thought to himself.

Andrew was practically buzzing with excitement as he started discussing the medical details, quickly comparing Atlas’s current readings to his old ones.

“Your Highness, your hormone levels are all spiking, your body temperature is higher than usual, and your psychic force is fluctuating wildly. It looks like you’ve awakened your powers, and from the looks of it, they’re leaning towards cold abilities.

“But this is just the beginning. If you reach the advanced stage, you might be able to freeze things solid or even conjure up a blizzard,” he said.

Andrew was so hyped up that his hands were actually shaking.

Atlas glanced at his palm, and with a subtle push of his psychic force, his nails morphed into razor-sharp fox claws.

Cold mist curled off the tips of his claws, sending a chill through the air

Andrew was practically vibrating with excitement. “Your Highness, wanna test it out? See if that icy aura does any damage? Heck, you could even try it on me,”

Atlas was speechless. Andrew was solid in every way, but the moment anything medical came up, the guy turned into a total maniac.

Like hell he’d actually claw his right-hand man.

Atlas sat up and, with a casual swipe of his claws, slashed at the steel panel on the side of the medical equipment.

The steel was instantly torn through, three distinct gashes marking its surface. A layer of frost coated the machinery inside.

Atlas tried again with just a regular swipe, no cold power involved. He still managed to scratch the steel, but the effect was way weaker compared to when he used the chill.

Chapter 188

Atlas checked out his hand, clearly pleased, and told Andrew, “Let’s keep this between us for now. Nobody else can know about this.”

“Understood, Your Highness. I’ll go dig through all the data I can find and see if there’s any way to help you get your powers under control. If you feel weird at all, just let me know right away,” Andrew said.

“Okay,” Layla replied.

Layla waited outside, watching as Andrew left with his eyes practically glowing with excitement.

That expression totally reminded her of the way Annie looked when she first fell in love.

She gave Atlas a strange look as he came out. Noticing her odd stare, Atlas immediately hid his sharp claws.

Atlas walked over, slipped his arm around Layla’s shoulders, and said, “Layla, let’s talk a bit more about your father.”

Layla jumped in. “Ninth, I’ve always had my doubts about those nasty rumors flying around about the rebels.

“I mean, I’m not trying to stick up for my dad or anything. I haven’t even met him or his people face-to-face, so I honestly have no clue what they’re really like.

“What I’m saying is, maybe you could hold off on treating them as the enemy for now? If it turns out they’re actually as evil as everyone says, there’s no way I’d side with them.”

Layla never really had a sense of belonging on Alpha Prime.

And she didn’t feel much of a sense of belonging with her real father’s side either.

She’d grown up always lacking a sense of security. She’d read somewhere that kids raised in orphanages usually have trouble feeling safe.

Some of them even end up with gaps in their personality.

Sensing Layla’s anxiety, Atlas squeezed her hand and reassured her, “Relax, Layla I’m not about to make a move against

dad and his crew. But now they want to take you away and keep us from getting married. How do we deal with that?”

your

“I’m definitely marrying you,” Layla said, her tone unwavering.

“I know you love me more than anyone, Layla, but what if your dad just shows up and insists on taking you away?” Atlas asked, worry clear in his voice.
