Chapter 189
Chapter 189
Atlas’s worry only deepened the more he thought about it. With all his military duties, there was no way he could be by Layla’s side all the time.
Back when he was still using the “November” disguise, it was fine. Now that he had been exposed, if he showed up at Imperial Academy to sit in on Layla’s class, the whole room would probably hold its breath.
Layla thought it over and said, “Ninth, when my dad comes to find me, I’ll have a proper conversation with him.”
Atlas still sounded worried. “But what if he doesn’t want to talk? What if he just tries to take you away?”
Layla asked, “Hey, Ninth, could you lend me Ares for the next few days?”
Layla was no ordinary shift tier. Her shift tier was high, and she was always on alert. No one, not even Atlas, could just whisk her away without her knowing.
Not even her dad, Daniel Sullivan, could pull that off.
If things really got tense, Layla would have to make her position clear and stand firm.
With Ares around, it’d be almost impossible for anyone to take her away, at least for the time being.
Atlas immediately handed Layla the button for Ares’s mech suit and then pulled her into his arms.
“Layla, thank you for loving me so much,” he said softly.
Layla stiffened for a second and then couldn’t help but laugh. But honestly, if it came down to it, she’d rather go head-to- head with Daniel than ever give up on Atlas.
She truly loved him.
Now that they’d finally opened up to each other, things just fell into place between them.
They didn’t even need the rut to spice things up anymore.
But just as they were caught up in a kiss, Layla suddenly sensed something was off. She grabbed Atlas’s wandering hand.
Atlas, with his fox ears twitching in confusion, glanced at her. He couldn’t figure out why she’d suddenly called a halt when the mood was just right.
Layla let out a soft sigh, pulled his hand away from where it shouldn’t be, and showed it to him.
His fingertips were icy cold.
Layla had been totally into it just a moment ago, but that chilly touch gave her a jolt, instantly killing the mood. All she could do now was laugh helplessly at how ridiculous it was.
Atlas was kind of speechless.
‘Damn it. I really need to get my powers under control soon, or Layla won’t even let me kiss, hug, or cuddle her, he thought.

After finally laying everything out with Atlas about Daniel, Layla felt like a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders.
She was busy prepping for finals and sorting out all the wedding stuff.

Chapter 189
All the while, she was waiting for Daniel to come find her.
Krish had started taking over a bunch of Atlas’s military duties.
He put on this act, saying it was all because Atlas was busy with wedding plans and shouldn’t be worn out.
But nobody was fooled. Krish was clearly using the chance to grab power from Atlas and fill the military ranks with his own loyal crew.
Roger and the other adjutants were all worried, but Atlas couldn’t care less. He’d just show his face at military HQ, or head over to the palace to see how the wedding plans were coming along.
Sometimes, he’d even swing by the Wastelands-9 Orphan Core for a visit.
The kids there were still too young to really understand why the guy they used to call November was suddenly Atlas.
But once they saw he was still the same person, they just kept crowding around him and playing like always.
Celia, on the other hand, was scared out of her wits.
She was on edge, worried sick that one of the kids might accidentally tick off Atlas.
But Evelyn tried to calm her down, saying, “Don’t worry. No matter how wild the kids get, His Highness won’t lose his temper with them. Unless, you know, he ever stopped caring about Layla.”
Atlas was crazy about Layla, so to him, all the orphans she looked after were just adorable, and his patience for them was endless.
But if Atlas ever stopped caring about Layla, he wouldn’t hang around here at all.
That was how love worked. To love a person was to love everything that came with them.
Celia watched Atlas play with the kids in the yard and sighed, “On the newsfeeds, Prince Atlas always seemed intimidating. serious, and unapproachable. Now, the contrast is night and day.”
Evelyn looked out at Atlas, but her gaze drifted off into the distance.
She couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
‘Love really can melt the iciest heart. Even someone as cold as him can turn gentle when they’re in love, she thought.
After hanging out at Wastelands-9 Orphan Core for a bit, Atlas, showing his softer side, got ready to leave.
School was out for Layla, and he was off to pick her up.
On the aero-vehicle, Zee piped up, “Boss, now that everyone knows who you really are, when we get to campus, and the crowds show up, you gotta go back to being the old Prince Atlas, cold and distant, you know?”
Atlas paused for a second.
He reached up and touched his face.
It felt like forever since he’d had to put on that classic ice-cold prince act.
Back when he was acting as November, it was easy for him to get close to Layla, and the two of them just clicked.
But after being stuck in that easygoing November mode for so long, he’d even catch himself smiling at Krish in the mornings.

Chapter 189
Krish was totally spooked by it.
Zee watched Atlas, who kept touching his own face, and asked carefully, “Boss, did I say something wrong?”
Atlas leaned back on the sofa, his eyes softening and a faint smile tugging at his lips.
“No, this is just fine,” he said.
