28 dinner
28: dinner
Zoren
“He sent just this?” I asked Ethan while staring down at the opened box across my desk right now. This was the doctor sent about ten minutes ago. They contained just two single stripes of material that dosent resemble a drug at all.
“He said it’s to be worn around the wrist, where a scent gland is located, but that there’s no guarantee it would really work.” Ethan echoed and I huffed as I kept regarding the stripes. They were thin and white in color. Would this shit really work? Will it make this annoying pain disappear completely?
Well, since we aren’t fated mates, this should certainly work, I’m certain.
As I tied one of the stripes around my wrists, I glanced up at Ethan cause I could feel him watching me closely.
“What is it?” I asked sharply, defensively.
He shrugged. “Nothing, it’s just interesting seeing you in a different dynamic aside from the workaholic I’ve always known you as.” He pointed out and I shot him a glare, feeling called out.
“It’s nothing serious.” I told him as I pushed to my feet, taking the second stripe along with me. Ciara should already be at the dining room along with Kai waiting for me. I’ll give her this stripe there, then she’ll stop feeling pain too. So far, I wasn’t feeling the effects of the stripe yet but I guess it needs a little time to start working.
“Is it really not?” Ethan drawled but I ignored him. I wouldn’t indulge him right now.
I pulled my phone out as I rounded the table, shooting my warlock friend a message to not forget to drop by tomorrow. I want him to come check Kai out with his magic, and at the same time, I’ll ask to take a look at Ciara and I tomorrow so I can remove any second thoughts that she might be my fated mate from my mind.
After I shoved my phone in my pocket, I looked over at Ethan. “Don’t forget to tell Fred to make sure all my appointments for tomorrow are moved forward as well. I still want to spend uninterrupted time with my son.”
I said as I headed for the door, Ethan falling right into steps beside me.
“I already told him that, and he told me one of the appointments might be unmovable.”
I stoppped walking, annoyance shooting through me. “Which appeomtmrht is that?!”
“Erica’s father.” He revealed and I cussed, pulling on my hair hard.
“Fucking hell. Get Fred to move it no matter what. I’ll rather not deal with that at all for now.” I tell him and he nodded. I was about to say something else when a call came into my phone. I almost ignored it until I sawthat it was my father.
“Father.” I breathed out after accepting the call. He coughed little before speaking and I winced a little. He was growing sicker and sicker these days and that wasn’t making me happy in any way.
“Have you severed the bond yet?” He asked as I massaged my chest and I felt a bitter taste settle on my tongue whike my wolf scoffed within me.
“I sure have.” I breathed out. My father let out a happy sound.
“That’s great news, son, cause Erica’s father has been giving me some troubles these days, always insisting that he’s tired of waiting without his daughter not being wedded to you yet.”
As he spoke, I frowned in irritation. “How dare he harsss you? That bastard…” I swore before he cut me off.
“Don’t sound that way, son. You know he’s been patient. The agreement was for us to merge our packs together after you and his daughter get together. That agreement has been hanging on the line for five years, he’s bound to get impatient.” He pointed out and I rolled my eyes, hating that he was right.
“Father, I haven’t told you this yet, but I don’t think I’m interested in merging the packs anymore,” I breathed out. “I’ve grown this pack five times more than it was when I took it over five years ago. This pack is not only now very successful, it has massively surpassed Erica’s father’s own, and is the biggest pack in the country now. It’

s clearly why he’s still pushing for that deal.” I continued and my father made a sign of agreement.
“Whike this is true, you can’t just back out of the agreement. If you do, his daughter won’t agree to marry you anymore.” He pointed out and I snorted. That’s what he thinks but he doesn’t know that erica doesn’t care about her father or her pack like she cares about me. I already planned that by the time I’ll wed her, it will be outside that agreement to merge our packs and I’m more than certain she’ll agree.
“Don’t worry, father. Just leave it to me.” I assured him and he let out a sigh indicating that he didn’t think my plan would work but still choosing to drop it and trust me cause time after time, I’ve proven that I’m more than capable.
“Have you sent the girl back after severing the bond?” He asked next and I told him I was already working on that. In a few days, he’ll face the biggest shock of his life when I introduce Kai to him as his grandson. After the call ended, I heaved in relief while putting the phone away. At the same time, the door right in front of the hallway we were about to enter suddenly burst open to reveal jet looking like he ran all the way here. As soon as he noticed us, he instantly schooled his facial expression as he walked closer.
“Miss Ciara and her son are waiting in the dining room, but Miss Erica is waiting too. It seems she’s prepared to join y’all in dinner as well.” As he spoke, I felt anger slowly gripped me tightly. Erica is the last person I want to see tonight, along with the fact that I hadn’t liked the fact that her and my son didn’t hit it off this afternoon like I had assumed they would. I thought she was amazing Witt Kids? She always told me she loved kids so much and is very good with them.
I matched off to the dining room, feeling displeasure as soon as the doors got thrown open and I caught sight of Erica’s face. As I stepped into the room, her scent washef over me and I wrinkled my nose in displeasure, and as I got to the head of the table, she was already on her feet, a soft smile on her face as she attempted to hug me. I held her away from me, a look of disapproval on my face as I spoke.
“Why are you here?” I asked bluntly and she swallowed, her face flushing a little In embarrassment. Ciara and Kai were seated beside each other, silently watching. Kai looked confused and Ciara looked like she’d rather not be here, her beautiful face scrunched up in what I assumed was displeasure. The dinner tonight was supposed to be perfect, it haven’t started but it already seems like it’s been ruined.
“I- I figured since I’m a part of your life, I deserve to be here too.” She responded but when I kept scowling at her, she added. “And there’s the fact that I want to get to know Kai even more. Our first encounter didn’t go that smoothly so I want to try again cause I’m determined to get to know him. I even got him a present!” She pointed at the table and I noticed a wrapped present right beside her plate.
I let out a sigh, still not wanting her here, but she just made effort to get to know my son and that made me feel pleased.
