Stepbrother Mine A Son For Alpha Zoren (Ciara) novel Chapter 9

9: the talk

9: the talk

Ciara/Alice

My mouth opened and closed a few times. I was breathing so hard, it felt like I might pass out from how fast my head was spinning right now. Zoren looked very mad and that shocked me because I never imagined that he’d care enough to be a little angry.

“I- I thought you wouldn’t want him because of how my family fled back then-” I began and he let out a scoff.

“Ah, of course. You and your mother, such brilliant thieves, you both truly impressed me to be honest. You both gained my father’s trust, stole from him, then fled.” He announced and my eyes widened as I shook my head desperately.

“That’s not true, I wasn’t in on it, I promise.” I cried out but he didn’t even seem to be listening to me as he continued.

“You were so innocent, so… pure. I never could have imagined that you were a snake underneath that facade.” He spat and I flinched at the venom in his voice.

“I didn’t steal from your father, I swear. I wasn’t in on the plan.” I repeated more urgently this time but he only rolled his eyes before speaking again.

“After doing something that malicious, you dared to seek me out. I must commend you for being brave, because are you aware that I could have you killed now? After all, you and your mother committed a grave sin five years ago.” He drawled in a very casual tone and I instantly stiffened while gasping from fear, my chest feeling like it might explode right now.

“But… it’s a good thing you did take this step, because turns out I had a son this whole time without realizing it. And you also have a lot to pay for, seeing as I’ve also been searching for you relentlessly.” He continued to speak and I gulped while my heart clenched from fear within me.

“Please, whatever you do, just please d- don’t hurt my son, please. I’m only truly concerned about him, and he also needs help. That’s why i seeked you out while knowing it was dangerous.” I whispered while blinking up at him. His hand was still on my chin, and his touch there felt almost electrifying.

Zoren’s eyes widened for a moment before filling with anger as he growled, a low inhumane sound that I haven’t heard in five years but still instantly recognized, which had me jumping just as he spoke harshly. “You think I’d ever hurt my own son?” He barked and I jumped again, cursing myself out internally.

“I’d never do that, even though I’m angry at his mother, I’d never hurt him. And I’m aware that he needs help.”

My eyes widened in surprise. “You are?” I asked tentatively and he nodded once.

“I could smell it. His wolf is in withdrawal state.” He revealed and my brows furrowed as I blinked up at him.

“Is that… life threatening?” I asked skeptically, then I almost fainted when he nodded.

“Wolves in withdrawal state almost never get out of it. They end up turning feral, and end up turning rogue. That means they’d lose sense of their humanity and turn into a wild beast. For the safety of others, they’d have to be put down.” As he spoke, a terrified gasp tore past my throat as I gaped at him, feeling light headed.

“What? He’ll be p- put down??!” I cried out but he shook his head firmly.

“Not yet, he hasn’t gotten to the stage of no return yet.” He had a grim expression on as he spoke.

I’d have fallen to my knees if he wasn’t still holding my chin right now. “Please, please help my son. Don’t let him die, I beg of you.” I pleaded, my eyes instantly welling up with tears.

“Of course I’ll help him. You don’t have to beg.” He responded almost immediately and I almost sobbed from relief as he continued. “Although it’s shocking to discover I had a son this whole time, I’m happy about his existence. He seems confident and very grown, that must be my genes in him.” He spoke and I felt a flutter of hope settled in my chest.

“How did you discover he’s a wolf?” He suddenly asked and my heartbeat accelerated as I explained all that had happened.

“Poor kid, he has clearly suffered a lot. No wonder his wolf is in withdrawal state.” He stated quietly once I finished, then he added.

“I’d like to get introduced to him as his father. What have you told him about his father so far?” His eyes were narrowed.

My heart jumped hard as I shook my head fast. “Nothing yet.” I admitted quietly and he nodded once.

“Good.”

He continued to stare down at me, then his eyes suddenly darted to the side of my throat. My face instantly flushed as soon as I realized what he was staring at. I tried to duck my head, but his grip on my chin was firm, preventing that from happening. I stood frozen as he finally dropped my chin and reached for the mark on my throat, which he left there five years ago. It has faded, but it was still right there. I was always confused over how a hickey never cleared, but I learnt to ignore it most of the time. As soon as his thumb brushed against the mark, a gasp tore past my parted lips and I trembled while blinking up at him, unable to believe what just happened.

His eyes were intense, focused as he stared hard at the mark, then back at my face as he spoke in that low, controlled tone. “Do you know how much this little mark ruined my life for the past five years?” He asked and my eyes widened as I gaped at him. He looked furious and that made my heart climb into my throat.

“I want to undo this bond, this wretched bond, but you were nowhere to be found.” He added in a harsh voice and I jumped again.

“I’m sorry.” I squeaked out, completely unsure of what I was apologizing for.

In the next moment, his hand pinned above my head reached for my head and tilted it sideways, making my eyes widened before I stiffened when his face buried in my throat and he sniffed at my skin once. I remained still, nervous and confused.

He stiffened almost immediately and pulled away, his brows furrowed as he spoke. “Is there a man in your life now?”

My mouth opened and closed without a word coming out, then I slowly nodded while swallowing emptily. “I— yeah, my boyfriend.”

Almost immediately, he let go of me and pulled back as if scalded, then his cold eyes raked over me again as he continued. “How long?”

I swallowed emptily again, my heart pounding away while I wondered why he was asking that. “I-I don’t… does this matter?”

His eyes narrowed and I quickly responded. “About a year.” I admitted quietly and his lips twisted as he regarded me.

“And was he also living on the money you and your mother stole from us?” He demanded and my eyes widened and I shook my head fast.

“No, that’s not true, he’s not like that!” I cried out.

Nico was very responsible and has a good job, he never asked me for money before. And my share of the money which my mother gave me, I haven’t even spent half of it cause I only used the money when it was completely necessary.

“And I didn’t steal from you guys, it was all my mum. I wasn’t in on the plan and I had no idea she was even planning to do that, I swear.” I continued earnestly, hoping he’d believe me.

“Stop lying to me, Ciara.” He uttered darkly and that made my inside grow still. Firstly, that’s the first time I’ve been called that in years, and the way he said my name…

He stepped closer after that and I tensed up as he continued. “Do you realize how you all hurt my father? How much your mother hurt him? He genuinely believed he got a wife and a bunch of daughters that his late ife never got to give him.”

Tears welled my eyes as he spoke and I felt more guilt weigh down my chest. For the past five years, I’ve

strongly battled with guilt even though I wasn’t the one who actually stole anything.

I opened my mouth to speak at that moment but the doors burst open at that moment, completely startling me. As I stared at the doors, I watched as a woman strode in, confident and poised like she owned the room. Her black dress hugged her curves and her ginger hair made her look more fierce as he strut towards Zoren who had now pulled away from me and was facing her, his expression unreadable.

Who is she?

She glanced at me, briefly and just for a moment like I was completely irrelevant, then she stepped into Zoren’ s arms, pressing a long kiss against his mouth, while I stood awkwardly by the side, feeling irritated for some weird reason.

“Baby, who is she?” The woman asked after finally pulling away. She still didn’t look at me as she spoke.

I was that irrelevant to her.

“Why didn’t you knock first? Haven’t we talked about this? I could have been in an important meeting.” Zoren said instead and the woman pouted at him, still holding his hand.

“I’m sorry, I was too eager to see you.” She sighed out before adding. “But you’re not in any important meeting, clearly.”

This bitch…

Zoren gently pulled her off him, then he nodded at the door. “Go wait outside, I’ll be right there.”

She didn’t protest, she just kissed his cheek before turning to leave, and she still didn’t spare me a glance. After she left and closed the doors after her, Zoren faced me again and it was instantly on the tip of my tongue to ask him who that woman was, and if she was the woman he was in love with five years ago and was gonna get married to. Are they already married?

I was very curious, but I swallowed those questions down because it wasn’t my place to ask them, and because Zoren was still mad at me.

His eyes locked with mine again and I gulped, watching as his gaze lingered on my throat for a moment, making me squirm in discomfort. Turns out, his gaze still had the same unnerving effect they had on me five

years ago.

His eyes locked with mine next as he spoke. “We’ll resume this discussion later.” He informed me, automatically dismissing me.

To clearly go to his woman.

A wave of irritation settled over me which I swallowed down.

I’ve long since moved on from him, I was very certain of that. I mean, I now have a loving boyfriend, one who also loves my son. So, why did I feel irritated just now?

I was led back to the ivory room by a woman this time. She introduced herself to me as Alina. “I’m a delta, my dear. And in case you’re wondering, you’re presently in a pack, but not the pack’s house. This is the alpha king’ s second base.” She explained as we walked side by side. I felt confused by her words. What’s a pack? What’s a delta? There’s so much I don’t know.

“Who’s the alpha king? Mr. Gregg?” I asked and the woman laughed.

“Oh, no. He stepped down five years ago. The present alpha king is Alpha Zoren, and well, since you’re in the ivory room, I take it the words already spreading around this base are true, that you have bore him a son because of the striking resemblance. Is that true?” She asked and I hesitated, unsure cause Zoren would wanna announce it himself.

When I remained silent, the woman continued. “Anyways, Erica wouldn’t be happy should she discover you’ve been given the ivory room.”

My eyes widened in confusion. “Who is Erica?”

“The alpha king’s woman.” She revealed.

Ah. So that’s her name. Erica.

“This woman of the king… how long have they been together? And are they married?” I asked before I could stop myself.

“For about five years. They aren’t married yet but everyone knows they’ll end up together.”

The woman grinned at me. “Unless perhaps, your presence might turn things around. Don’t you think so?”
