Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 107

They had drained their savings, lived entirely on pennies, and taken her to the big city just to afford the reconstructive surgeries.

They treated her so beautifully, loving her as their own flesh and blood, sacrificing everything to protect and nurture her.

And now, when they needed her the absolute most, she couldn't even secure a doctor for them.

In the blink of an eye, Summer's face was drenched in tears.

She wasn't someone who cried easily, but now, she couldn't stop.

She lifted her bloodshot, tear-blurred eyes and stared intensely at Xavier. "Xavier, name your price. What do I have to do to get Dr. Grant to operate on my dad first?"

Xavier frowned.

He hadn't intended to use this to manipulate her.

He didn't know Dr. Grant's original patient was Edward, nor did he realize the extent of Edward's injuries.

He had planned to ask about her parents earlier, but when Hunter suddenly fell and injured himself, the thought had vanished.

Seeing Xavier's silence, Lily grew displeased. Her face hardened. "Summer, your dad's life matters, but Hunter's doesn't? If his broken leg doesn't heal correctly, it'll affect him for the rest of his life. He's just a child."

"A broken leg won't kill him." Summer kept her gaze locked entirely on Xavier. "Xavier, do you want me to beg?"

As she spoke, Summer's remaining strength vanished. She collapsed onto the harsh linoleum floor, all her pride stripped away, the heavy thud of her fall echoing in the room.

Her eyes were crimson, silent tears pouring down her face. They were filled with agony, terror, and absolute desperation. "Xavier, my dad was transferred all the way from Bridgeport. We've already lost too much time. He can't wait any longer. Xavier, please!"

"Waaah!" Hunter suddenly started wailing from the bed. "Uncle Xavier, it hurts! It hurts so much! Waaah!"

Hunter lay there in an oversized hospital gown. His tiny frame looked even smaller against the crisp white sheets, making for a pitiful sight.

"Xavier," Lily interrupted, terrified he might agree. She looked at him with teary, vulnerable eyes. "Xavier, Hunter is so young. If his leg isn't set perfectly, he could walk with a severe limp forever. His whole life would be ruined. Xavier, could you really live with that?"

Summer clenched her fists so hard her knuckles cracked. "Xavier! There is more than one orthopedic surgeon in this hospital capable of setting a bone! But Dr. Grant is the only one who can do my dad's surgery! Ask yourself how I've treated you all these years! I'm only asking for this one thing—just this one thing, and you still won't agree?!"

"Xavier, Hunter has his whole future ahead of him. We can't risk it. Dr. Grant is the best doctor here. I only trust him to treat Hunter's leg." Lily then turned her gaze to Summer.

"Your dad is already so old. Even if he gets the surgery, he might not recover. Why waste the medical resources?"

"Lily! That is a human life! What does a life mean to you? If my dad dies today, you..."

Summer's bloodshot eyes swept from Lily to Xavier. "You two are murderers!"

Lily frowned, leaning toward Xavier and acting terrified. "Xavier, I'm just being realistic. Look at her—she looks like she wants to eat me alive. She's so fierce."
