Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 108

"Waaah, bad witch..." Hunter cried louder. "I don't care, I want the best doctor! I don't want a bad leg! Waaah!"

Xavier stared coldly at Summer. "Summer, the hospital assigned Dr. Grant's schedule, and we are respecting their arrangement. If you're really that worried about your dad, stop throwing a tantrum and get out of the way so Hunter can go into surgery. The faster Dr. Grant finishes with Hunter, the faster he can operate on your dad."

A surgery took hours, not to mention the surgeon was human.

Wouldn't he need to rest after an exhausting procedure?

Edward had already lost precious hours transferring from Bridgeport. Time was life, and he had none left to waste.

"Xa-vier-Ster-ling." Summer's voice bled with agonizing betrayal, spacing out every syllable. "I used to think you were merely shameless and disgusting. Now I realize you are a vicious, despicable, utterly toxic monster! You and Lily are a match made in hell!"

She viciously wiped away her tears and staggered to her feet. "I must have lost my mind to come here and beg you."

She quickly stormed out of Hunter's room and pulled out her phone, dialing Silas Sinclair's number.

The call connected after just two rings, but the agonizing seconds of waiting had felt like a lifetime to Summer, draining her completely.

She had just wasted even more precious time on Xavier.

Her dad's time was running out.

Summer slumped weakly on the stairs of the empty stairwell. Though she tried desperately to steady her breathing, the raw hoarseness of her voice betrayed her tears.

"Mr. Sinclair, you said you were more than happy to help make Xavier miserable. Does that offer still stand?"

"It does," Silas replied without an ounce of fluff. His deep, steady voice possessed a strangely grounding power.

Summer calmed down, swiftly and concisely explaining the entire situation.

Upon hearing it, Silas asked an entirely unrelated question. "So the video wasn't fake, you did the live stream because of your dad, and you are married to Xavier?"

Thinking back to how she had just begged, collapsed, and humiliated herself in tears before Xavier, only to be met with icy indifference, a twisted sense of absurdity made her laugh aloud. It only cemented her utter disgust for her soon-to-be ex-husband.

A minute later, she forced herself up, pushing off the cold floor, and headed to the restroom to splash icy water on her face.

Outside the operating room.

She spotted Lily and Xavier standing in the corridor.

Meanwhile, she stood completely alone, looking utterly isolated and pitiful.

Tap, tap, tap—

The rhythmic, sharp click of dress shoes echoed down the hallway.

A moment later, a pair of black leather shoes stepped into Summer's line of sight...
