Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 145

Summer stormed over and snatched the ruined book from him. Seeing the torn pages made her heart bleed. "Do you have any manners at all?!" she yelled.

Without missing a beat, Summer grabbed Hunter's hand and smacked it hard. "Is this yours? You think you can just take whatever you want and rip it apart?!"

"Wahhh—!"

Hunter erupted into dramatic wails.

Lily scowled, shoving Summer away. "Summer, why are you being so aggressive? Hunter didn't do it on purpose."

"Then take it back! Wahhh, you mean lady! Hitting a kid!" Hunter grabbed the remaining shredded pages and threw them right at Summer.

The crumpled, annotated pages fluttered pathetically to the floor.

Leo bent down, carefully smoothing out a crumpled page before handing it to Summer. "Mom, I picked them all up for you. But some of them are ripped."

While the chaos unfolded, Leo had quietly gone around the room, picking up every single paper airplane, unfolding them, smoothing them out, and stacking them neatly.

But several pages had been torn to shreds by Hunter and tossed carelessly on the floor.

"Hunter, apologize."

Xavier, perhaps fearing Summer was about to strike the boy again, strode over. He stood beside Hunter, placing a large hand gently on the back of the boy's head, signaling him to apologize.

Summer laughed out of sheer fury. "Xavier, do you really think a simple apology fixes this?"

Lily stood on the other side of Hunter, looking incredibly annoyed. "Summer, it's just a book. You already hit him, do you really have to hold a grudge? Tell you what, I'll buy you ten copies to replace it."

"Ten copies?" Summer's eyes flashed with lethal intensity. "Lily, this book wasn't just signed by the author, it had Harrison Banks' handwritten notes inside! It is the only copy of its kind in the entire world! How are you going to replace that? What are you going to use to replace it? You couldn't afford it if you tried!"

"Summer!" Xavier interjected, his voice dark. "I know that book had a lot of unique notes in it, but Hunter didn't know that. He was just playing, he didn't do it maliciously. There's no need to spin these ridiculous lies just to target Lily. What does this have to do with her? Acting like this just makes you look pathetic."

Summer felt like she was going to have an aneurysm dealing with this scumbag and his mistress.

She hadn't wanted to lose her temper. She knew it was an ugly look, but seeing her mentor's precious birthday gift shredded like trash pushed her over the edge.

She refused to swallow this insult. She wasn't going to give herself an ulcer over them!

Wasn't there a saying online? Those who lose their minds get to enjoy the world first.

Summer exploded. "You don't know shit! You don't know anything! Even if two people read the exact same book, their thoughts and inspirations change depending on the time and environment. Those notes were one of a kind and completely irreplaceable!"

"Then what do you want?" A flicker of extreme irritation crossed Xavier's eyes. It was the weekend, and he had zero desire to argue. He rubbed his temples. "Summer, I was the one who took the book. It's my responsibility. I will compensate you. Name your price, whatever you want."
