It was only then that the two cops realized Summer was actually the billionaire's wife!
They had genuinely thought the woman lounging on the sofa was Mrs. Sterling.
If Summer was the actual wife, then who the hell was the woman on the couch?
Judging by how undeniably intimate she was with the billionaire, was she his mistress?
She had practically moved into the wife's house?!
As police officers, they had long developed a keen eye for reading people. They saw right through the messy dynamic.
This relationship was something else...
The two cops silently absorbed the massive dose of drama.
Knowing that Leo was the billionaire's legitimate heir, the officers offered him a reassuring smile. "Hey kid, your mom is just coming with us for some routine questioning. She's not being convicted of anything. There's no need to worry."
But Leo was only five years old. How could he not worry? How could he not be terrified?
"It's fine, Leo. Don't beg him." Summer gently stroked Leo's hair. "When the doctor gets here, make sure he gives you a tetanus shot and bandages your head properly. Since Mom won't be here, you have to look out for yourself, okay?"
Summer harbored absolutely no delusions that Xavier would remember to care for his own son.
With her gone, Leo was completely on his own.
"Mom," Leo cried, throwing his arms around her and hugging her as tightly as he could.
Summer could only pat his head. "Don't cry. Mom will be out to see you real soon."
On the sofa, Lily let out a silent scoff.
Real soon?
Keep dreaming.
Now that Summer was finally locked up, she had better enjoy the ride.
Summer was escorted out by the two officers.
Moments later, the family doctor arrived. The second he walked in, he spotted the bloody gash on Leo's forehead. "What happened to the young master?"
The doctor was about to step toward Leo to treat him, but Xavier grabbed his arm and yanked him in the opposite direction. "Look at Lily first. She's pregnant, and she's having stomach pains. Check on her immediately."
"But the young master?" The doctor glanced back at Leo, who was sitting silently in a chair.
"It's just a surface wound, and it's already been disinfected. Check Lily first, then you can bandage him. He'll be fine."
"Very well."
Xavier stood by anxiously, his eyes glued to Lily without blinking, whispering gentle reassurances to keep her calm.
Xavier: [The police are still investigating. We don't have all the facts yet.]
Julian: [Who else could it possibly be?! It has to be her!]
Julian: [Don't worry, Lily. Since she dared to lay a hand on Fang, I will absolutely make sure her life is a living hell!!]
Lily: [What are you going to do? Don't do anything reckless! We don't even know for sure it was her yet.]
Julian: [Relax, nothing crazy. I'm just going to teach her a little lesson.]
Xavier didn't reply to the group chat again, but Julian knew perfectly well that Xavier was reading the messages. By staying silent, Xavier was giving his tacit approval.
Teach Summer a lesson. Make her remember her place!
...
The interrogation dragged on, round after grueling round. Each session was more intense than the last. Blindingly bright lights were shined directly into Summer's eyes, and every relentless question felt like a trap designed to bury her alive.
After three high-intensity interrogations, Summer hadn't been given a single drop of water. Her nerves were stretched so tight they threatened to snap. The veins at her temples throbbed violently, sending waves of blinding pain through her skull.
Yet, she gritted her teeth and survived. Before every single round, she firmly stated her demand: she wanted her lawyer.
But because this was classified as a minor offense and not a major criminal case, the interrogation process remained entirely locked down. She was denied phone calls and legally barred from seeing her lawyer.
