Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 148

For no apparent reason, Xavier's chest suddenly tightened. He wanted to analyze the feeling, but the maid interrupted by bringing over a glass of warm water.

Xavier took the glass and personally helped Lily drink, completely losing any interest in Summer or her son.

With Xavier's bodyguards blocking the door, Summer couldn't take Leo to the hospital. She had no choice but to bring him back inside and dig through the house's medical supplies.

Thank god she hadn't packed the first-aid kit when she moved out.

Summer gently cleaned the wound on Leo's forehead, disinfecting it to stop the bleeding.

All they could do now was wait for the family doctor to arrive, administer a tetanus shot, and properly bandage it.

Leo sat perfectly still, not making a single sound.

"Does it hurt?"

Leo shook his head. "No." He had been punished so often growing up that he had long mastered the art of enduring pain.

This was nothing to him.

It certainly didn't hurt as much as Carlson's punishments.

Summer's heart ached for him, and she gently pulled him into a hug.

Leo hugged her back fiercely, whispering, "Mom, I'm just really sad."

Fang was dead, and he was heartbroken.

Xavier had falsely accused him, refused to believe him, completely ignored him, and dismissed his mother. He was utterly devastated.

"Don't be sad. Mom is right here with you."

The police arrived shortly after.

"Mr. Sterling, hello. Are you the one who called this in?"

Xavier nodded. "Yes."

"May I ask the reason for your call?"

Having survived in elite high society for years, Summer knew exactly how much privilege money and power could buy. She didn't believe a single word coming out of the cops' mouths.

But right now, she was cornered. Her phone was completely smashed, and she couldn't reach Sebastian Stone.

She had no choice but to comfort Leo. "It's okay. The police will figure out the truth and let me go. Don't worry."

Leo's little hands grabbed Summer's clothes in a death grip.

He turned his head to look at Xavier, his eyes brimming with absolute desperation. "Dad, Mom didn't do it. Please don't let the police take her away."

Xavier's eyes darkened. "So you're not calling me 'Mister' anymore?"

Leo bit his lip hard. "Dad, I was wrong. Please let Mom go. She would never hurt Fang."

Xavier's expression remained as cold as a glacier. "If it wasn't her, the police will clear her name."

"Dad, please." Tears spilled down Leo's face. "I promise I'll be good from now on. I'll go back to the old manor. Just don't let them take Mom."
