Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 158

"Did I invite you?" Summer stared at her with glacial hatred. "Get the hell out of my sight!"

As she spoke, Summer raised the heavy broom to swing again.

"Summer!"

Xavier reached out and caught the broom handle mid-swing. Through the swirling snowflakes, his sharp gaze locked onto Summer.

She looked incredibly frail, her skin paler and colder than the falling snow, entirely devoid of warmth.

Her bloodshot eyes bore into him, glaring at him as if he were an irredeemable monster she wanted to butcher piece by piece.

Startled by the sheer intensity of her hatred, Xavier released the broom and instinctively softened his tone. "Summer, we just came to pay our respects to your father."

"My father?" Summer laughed, a harsh, mocking sound. "Get out. My dad has nothing to do with you people. He doesn't need your respects, and he definitely doesn't want to see your faces."

Edward knew they were getting a divorce. He knew Xavier was a cheating bastard.

If his spirit was watching from above and saw Xavier bringing his mistress to the funeral, Summer was positive her father would have been angry enough to rise from the dead just to flip his own casket.

"Summer," Lily chimed in softly, "we're already here. Please, just let us lay our flowers and leave. We really mean well; we just want to say goodbye to the old man."

Summer saw right through Lily's sickeningly fake act. The woman had only come to rub salt in the wound.

"Lily, you've got some nerve. You're pregnant, yet you indirectly killed my father, and now you dare to show up at his memorial? Aren't you afraid his spirit is lingering right above us, staring down at you and that baby in your belly?"

Lily paled, instinctively clutching Xavier's arm.

She hadn't thought that far ahead before she arrived. The second she found out Xavier was coming to Summer's hometown, she had thrown a fit and demanded to come along.

"Go ahead. Walk in."

After Summer's grim warning, there was no way Lily was taking another step. As an expecting mother, she was hyper-paranoid about her baby's safety.

This child was the ultimate leverage she had with Xavier; she refused to take even the slightest risk.

"Too scared?" Summer sneered. "And you still claim you didn't intentionally cause my father's death? Just wait, Lily. The karma is going to fall directly onto your child."

Lily buried her face in Xavier's chest and sobbed. "Xavier, listen to her. She's so vicious. We drove all this way to honor her father, and she's cursing my unborn baby!"

Xavier placed immense value on the child Lily was carrying. Hearing Summer's dark words ignited a furious fire in his chest. "Summer, apologize to Lily right now!"

"Would you like me to drop to my knees for her, too?" Summer sneered, staring at him with utter disdain.
