Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 187

Dr. Whitmore pointed at Summer with a look of pure smugness. "See that? She bought it. A true connoisseur!"

Summer looked at the man, and the man happened to look at her. They immediately mirrored each other's expressions of utter shock.

"You?!"

They blurted out in unison.

The man was none other than the guy who had been sitting next to Xavier at the auction—Wesley Whitmore.

What had he just called the old man?

Grandpa?!

No wonder Xavier had asked her that night if she knew who he was.

And what had she replied?

*I have no interest in knowing...*

She had even told him to shut up.

Summer wanted to travel back in time and forcefully clap a hand over her own mouth.

Dr. Whitmore's eyes darted suspiciously between the two. "What, do you two know each other?"

Summer shook her head, opting for honesty. "We've only crossed paths once at an auction."

Dr. Whitmore pointed at Wesley and introduced him. "This is my grandson, Wesley Whitmore. For your mother's condition, he's your guy. He can definitely handle it."

Wesley looked exasperated. "Grandpa, are you dumping another patient on me? I'm swamped at the lab, and there's already a massive waitlist at the hospital."

Catching the underlying refusal, Summer quickly looked back at Dr. Whitmore.

Truth be told, she really wanted the older doctor to take the case. First, because they had hit it off and she genuinely liked his temperament.

Second, because Dr. Whitmore's medical expertise was internationally renowned.

Wesley pinched the bridge of his nose in exasperation. "...Where did you get the idea that she's single? Did she tell you that?" If she did, he was definitely not going to take her case.

Dr. Whitmore looked incredibly proud of himself. "Your grandfather has eyes like a hawk. I saw it myself—she's not wearing a wedding ring, you idiot."

"..."

Wesley thought to himself: *You're the idiot.*

The Sterling family had never publicly acknowledged Summer's status all these years, so even though the Whitmores and Sterlings were old family friends, they had no idea who she was.

Xavier had also deliberately kept it quiet, meaning outside of a few close friends, no one knew Summer's true identity.

Even Wesley had only known her name and had never seen her face until that night at the auction.

Naturally, Wesley wasn't about to go gossiping about it now. He simply said, "She's not single, so drop it. And stop referring patients to me; I'm not exactly starving for work. The patients you dumped on me before will keep me busy well into next year. Are you trying to support me, or work me into an early grave?"

Dr. Whitmore looked at him with utter disdain. "How useless are you that you can't even handle a few patients? 'Medical genius,' my foot. Did you pay internet trolls to hype yourself up?"
