Wyatt was a wealthy heir himself; he naturally knew Julian and the others, and while they weren't best friends, they were definitely acquaintances.
However, his family had deep political ties, which was the only reason he had secured the permits to open a racing club in this prime location.
The guards who had manhandled Summer, and the trust-fund kids who had been trying to impress Julian, instantly turned pale.
Julian raised an eyebrow. "You know her, Wyatt?"
Wyatt nodded firmly. "She's my buddy."
The crowd gasped in shock; Summer actually knew Wyatt Hudson!
She hadn't been lying!
That meant she truly didn't need an invitation, making Lily's earlier smugness look ridiculously pathetic and self-important.
But no one was more surprised than Xavier.
He had absolutely no idea that Summer knew Wyatt, let alone that they were close friends.
Then again, it made sense. He had pretended to love her, but it had never been real. Because of that, he had never truly cared to understand her life outside of him.
He had only ever wanted Summer to be docile and compliant, dedicating herself entirely to him and his company.
Wyatt gently took Summer from Wesley and lifted her into his arms.
He quickly thanked Wesley and offered a curt nod of apology to Xavier's group.
Then, he carried Summer straight to the golf cart.
As Xavier watched Wyatt walk away with Summer in his arms, his brow furrowed slightly, a flash of darkness crossing his gaze.
Wesley glanced at him. "Worried?"
At Wesley's question, Lily and Julian instantly snapped their attention to Xavier.
Xavier indifferently withdrew his gaze. "When did your eyesight get so bad?"
Wesley turned and walked inside. "My eyesight is perfect. Yours, however, has some serious issues."
Otherwise, why would he ever fall for someone like Lily?
Wesley didn't say a word, simply picking up the cup and taking a sip.
Summer took a sip as well and immediately grimaced. "Wyatt, your tea is just as awful as it's always been."
She smoothly took Wesley's cup, dumped it out, and asked, "Mr. Whitmore, what kind of tea do you prefer?"
Wesley stood up. "Since you're fine, Ms. Vance, I'll be taking my leave."
Summer shot Wyatt a look. Wyatt instantly sprinted out of the room, locking the door firmly behind him.
Wesley looked back at Summer. Knowing she wouldn't give up until she got what she wanted, he calmly sat back down on the leather sofa. "Oolong, please."
Summer began brewing a fresh pot. "Mr. Whitmore, I was an orphan. My parents adopted me and gave me a real family."
Wesley remained silent, watching as she rinsed the teacups with practiced, elegant movements.
"When I was in high school, my face was severely injured, requiring reconstructive surgery. My parents had no money, but they never once thought of abandoning me. They sold everything they owned and brought me to the city to see specialists."
"To save money, they skipped meals and drank tap water, just so they could afford to buy me a decent meal. They would have dropped to their knees and begged any doctor if it meant saving me."
