Miles and Lily, afraid of running into Zelda, left in a huff. Before leaving, the look Miles gave Summer was terrifyingly sinister.
Summer met his gaze, her eyes even more sinister and fierce than his.
Since she was young, Summer knew that people walked all over the weak. Only by acting more vicious and ruthless than the wicked would the other party be wary and afraid.
After the two left, Julian received a call from Zelda asking about Xavier's condition.
Only then did Julian realize that Summer hadn't notified Zelda at all.
Julian burned with anger. "Summer, how dare you trick us."
Summer scoffed, "All's fair in war, idiot."
At that moment, Wesley kind of wanted to give Summer a thumbs up.
Wesley followed Summer to Maeve's ward and gave Maeve a full-body checkup.
After reading the report, Wesley said, "It's treatable."
Summer's eyes reddened with emotion. She clasped her hands together and prayed to all corners of the room, muttering something under her breath.
Wesley looked at her in amusement. "You still believe in this?"
Summer was very sincere. "You just haven't been pushed to that point. Maybe when you reach that point, you'll understand."
With that, Summer looked at Wesley and said earnestly, "But I hope, Dr. Whitmore, that you never have to reach that point."
What point?
The point where all you can do is pray to the gods.
"Dr. Whitmore, then can you help treat my mother? I can transfer you a few million first." As she spoke, Summer pulled out her phone, ready to transfer the money to Wesley on the spot.
Wesley stopped her. After a moment of thought, he said, "Wait for my answer first."
That night, in Xavier's ward.
Xavier woke up. This time, he was awake for much longer and could speak.
Wesley personally took the night shift. As a doctor, the Sterling family was naturally at ease with him keeping watch.
"Xavier, I'm a doctor, but I'm also a man. I strongly disagree with your methods. No matter what, Summer has been with you for seven years, and using her adoptive mother to threaten her is a bit... despicable."
Xavier didn't think it was a big deal. He was a businessman, and a businessman's tactics were always like this, as long as it didn't cross the legal bottom line.
What's more, he didn't love Summer, and because he didn't love her, he didn't care.
But Wesley was different. His social circle was much simpler, either the lab or the hospital.
He couldn't stand these things, especially using human lives as threats.
Of course, it couldn't be ruled out that he was just a good person with a strong moral compass.
"Think over what I said."
With Wesley's help, Xavier lay back down. "Are you planning to take on Summer's adoptive mother as a patient?"
"Yes." Wesley nodded.
Xavier couldn't figure out the reason and asked, "Just because you pity her? There are plenty of pitiful people in this world. You were never someone whose heart softened so easily before."
