With that, Gavin Loomis gave Lily a curt nod. "Excuse me, Ms. Sutton."
Lily forced a polite response. "Then we'll schedule for another time, Mr. Loomis."
Down in the FutureTech Systems underground parking garage.
Seeing Lily emerge from the building, Julian Hawthorne immediately tossed his phone aside, abandoning his game, and hopped out of the car.
He opened the door for her like an eager servant and grinned. "Lily, congratulations on joining FutureTech! I booked a place to celebrate, and the guys are already there. Let's go."
Sometimes Lily found Julian incredibly irritating.
She had never met anyone so utterly dense; the man couldn't read a room to save his life.
Hiding her disgust, she put on a devastated expression and sighed, "I ran into Summer."
Julian slid into the driver's seat, starting the engine with a laugh. "Bet she was shocked, right? With you working at FutureTech, she won't stand a chance. She might as well pack her bags and find a new job."
Lily felt like she was having a heart attack from his stupidity.
She had no choice but to spell it out. "With her there, do you really think I succeeded?"
"What do you mean?" Julian turned around, finally noticing the devastation on her face.
His tiny brain finally connected the dots, and he cursed loudly. "Damn it! Did that bitch Summer deliberately make things difficult for you?"
Furious, Julian reached for his phone. "Just wait. I'm calling Xavier right now."
Lily sat comfortably in the backseat, pretending to stop him. "Don't tell him. He just got discharged from the hospital, and I don't want him stressing over me. It's a small setback; I can handle it myself."
"With your resume, walking into a startup like this should have been a done deal," Julian argued, dialing the number anyway. "It's all Summer's fault. With her sabotaging you, getting hired is going to be impossible. Xavier needs to know."
Julian eagerly relayed the entire story to Xavier, heavily exaggerating the details while making sure to emphasize how vicious Summer had been.
But according to their agreement, she had to answer his calls and wasn't allowed to block him.
Summer picked up, only to be met with Xavier's icy interrogation. "Summer, are you trying to unilaterally tear up our agreement?"
She rolled her eyes and snapped, "Didn't I just answer your call?"
"Are we really talking about answering the phone right now?" Xavier demanded.
Summer played dumb. "Then what is it, Mr. Sterling? Spit it out and stop wasting my time. Do you know how much I make a minute now?"
Xavier still wasn't used to this aggressively abrasive version of Summer. Suppressing his irritation, he said, "Since we've called a truce, why are you still making things difficult for Lily?"
"Ha," Summer scoffed loudly. "Making things difficult for her? Did you see it with your own eyes? Or is that just what she fed you?"
Even without seeing it, Xavier sounded entirely self-righteous. "The result speaks for itself. A top-tier talent like her didn't pass a basic interview for a measly assistant role. Do you honestly think that's normal?"
