"Is it not?" Summer countered with a cold laugh. "She applied to be *my* assistant. I was willing to hire her, but she didn't have the guts to accept. If you're perfectly fine with her fetching my coffee and fetching my water, then I'll give you, my dear ex-husband, a little face and hire her. Think about it."
"Forget it," Xavier snapped coldly and hung up.
Staring at the disconnected screen, Summer clicked her tongue. She was too slow. Next time, she was definitely hanging up first.
The next day.
Xavier showed up at FutureTech Systems in person.
Summer knew exactly why he was there. His relentless dedication to Lily was almost impressive.
Standing right behind Xavier, Lily shot Summer an arrogant, triumphant smirk, as if to say: *Summer, I'm back, and I brought backup.*
Summer desperately wanted to tell her: *Even with backup, you're destined to leave empty-handed.*
She knew her own mentor better than anyone.
Keeping her expression entirely neutral, Summer pretended she didn't know them and walked straight into her office.
Inside Gavin Loomis's office.
Xavier wanted to invest in FutureTech, intending to buy his way into a shareholder position so he could effortlessly parachute Lily into the company.
Gavin took the contract Xavier pushed across the desk and slid it right back untouched. "My apologies, Mr. Sterling, but FutureTech isn't lacking funds at the moment."
It was the first time anyone had ever rejected Xavier's money.
Especially when he was delivering it personally. Ever since he became the Richest Man in Empire City, people usually begged to do business with him.
Xavier gave a low chuckle. "Rest assured, Mr. Loomis, I have no intention of interfering with FutureTech's operations or decisions. The company remains yours. I simply want Lily to have the opportunity to learn here."
Gavin shifted his gaze to Lily.
