A billion dollars?
The crowd gasped in shock, their eyes darting toward the CFO.
The CFO casually took a sip of his coffee and gave a calm nod. "The funds cleared our accounts yesterday."
Lily's hands balled into tight fists. That bitch!
Why did Summer insist on opposing her at every turn?!
Summer's smile grew wider, thoroughly enjoying the chaos she was causing. "Once my one-month cooling-off period ends and I finalize my divorce from my ex-husband, I'll be walking away with a multi-billion dollar settlement. Maybe I'll toss another five billion into the company just for fun."
The crowd erupted into absolute uproar!
How... how much?!
Five billion?!
Just which billionaire was Director Vance's soon-to-be ex-husband? How could he be this insanely rich?!
Little did the gossiping crowd know, the very ex-husband they were wondering about was standing right in front of them, looking utterly murderous.
Summer put on a perfectly exaggerated look of distress. "Sigh, it's so hard being a multi-billionaire at such a young age. I have so much cash and nowhere to put it, so I guess I'll just have to invest it all here. But speaking of which..."
Summer looked at Lily, a lethal sweetness in her tone. "Doesn't everyone say Ms. Sutton is from a wealthy family? A rich heiress who can't even scrape together a hundred million without begging a man for it?"
Lily ground her teeth. "Summer, we all know where your precious billions came from. You're nothing but a gold-digger who manipulated her way into a marriage scam just to steal a fortune. Do you really think that makes you superior?"
Did Lily really just call her a marriage scammer?
Who was the one who actually got scammed?
"Hahaha!" Summer laughed so hard tears pricked her eyes. "Yes, yes, yes, if saying that helps you sleep at night, then sure, I'm a gold-digger who scammed him out of his money and his body. But after playing with him for seven years, even the most handsome ex-husband gets boring and worn out. So I got tired of him, dumped him, and took the cash. Whoever wants my sloppy seconds is welcome to him."
The employees were speechless.
Was Director Vance's mental state completely unhinged?
Lily hadn't expected Summer to react this way. It felt like punching a wall of cotton—maddening and suffocating.
Her hatred flared even hotter!
"Summer!" Xavier ground his molars, staring at her with a dark, predatory gaze that promised absolute murder.
Summer merely smiled back, tilting her head innocently. "Can I help you, Mr. Sterling? Oh, did you want to increase your bid? How much? Surely it won't be less than my one billion, right?"
Seeing her act like this, Xavier took a deep breath, his face turning entirely devoid of emotion. "Let's go."
In the parking garage.
The moment Lily got into the car, her smile vanished, and she lowered her head. "I'm sorry, Xavier. I made you look like a fool."
Summer stopped reading. She looked up and locked eyes with her. "What did you just say? Repeat that."
Phoebe repeated herself, sounding entirely justified and unapologetic.
Summer's expression turned ice-cold. "So you're saying that when guests visit this house, if you're busy, you just ignore them and refuse to serve them?"
Phoebe instinctively shot back, "You're not a guest."
A second later, she realized her mistake.
It was out of pure habit. The staff at the Sterling estate had always looked down on Summer, considering themselves a step above her in the hierarchy. Behind closed doors, Summer had never been able to order them around.
That was why the disrespect had slipped out so effortlessly.
But Phoebe quickly composed herself. She hadn't cursed at Summer like her mother, Martha Jenkins, who had been fired because of it. Summer couldn't do anything to her.
Martha was Phoebe's mother, and it was Martha who had gotten her the job.
Ever since Martha was fired, Phoebe had carried a deep grudge against Summer.
Whenever she saw Summer, she made her disdain incredibly obvious, glaring and throwing attitude at every opportunity.
"But I am Mrs. Sterling of this household!" After holding the title for seven years without ever enjoying a single perk, she was practically divorced now.
