"My apologies, Mr. Sterling."
"If that's your final answer," Xavier said, his voice dropping to a heavy timbre, "I won't force the issue. Let's go."
Lily bit her lip furiously. She had been so certain this plan was foolproof!
After all, the terms Xavier offered were virtually impossible for anyone to turn down.
The contract was incredibly lenient, with only one single condition added: allow Lily to participate in Wesley Whitmore's project.
Furthermore, Xavier had personally stepped in to negotiate. Usually, out of sheer respect for his status, people would bend over backward to accommodate him.
With Xavier paving the way, Lily had been absolutely positive she'd conquer FutureTech.
But reality had just delivered a brutal slap to the face.
Gavin Loomis had actually rejected them!
Did he even realize who he was rejecting?!
The Richest Man in Empire City!
Lily was choking on her rage, her teeth grinding so hard they nearly cracked, yet she had to force a poised smile onto her face.
Her heels clicked sharply as she gracefully followed Xavier out of Gavin's office.
Summer happened to be walking by with a stack of documents, running straight into them.
She walked past with an air of complete indifference, but Xavier called out to her. "Summer."
She paused without turning to look at him, her voice entirely devoid of warmth. "What?"
Xavier stared at her cold, pale profile. "Come back to the estate for dinner tonight."
"Fine," she agreed flatly, immediately walking away without ever sparing Lily a single glance.
Sometimes, being completely ignored was the most deafening form of mockery.
Summer was mocking her!
