Xavier turned his head to look at Summer. His deep eyes were eerily calm, yet pregnant with a probing, calculative scrutiny.

Summer's grip tightened around the armrests of her wheelchair. "What are you staring at?" she snapped.

Xavier raised an eyebrow. "Did I offend you somehow?"

"Didn't you?" Summer gritted her teeth. "I told you to investigate my food poisoning. Have you done it? If you don't start looking into it soon, I'll call the cops and let them do it for you!"

If Summer hadn't brought it up, Xavier genuinely would have forgotten.

Silas cast a tender, affectionate gaze down at the boy. "He takes after his mother."

With that, Silas looked back up at Xavier. "My son needs his rest. Since you've seen him, Mr. Sterling, I suggest you leave."

Silas had officially issued an eviction notice, and Xavier had no grounds to stay. He threw one last, unreadable glance at Summer before turning on his heel.

Julian blinked. *Wait, that's it? We're just leaving?*

As Xavier walked past the en-suite bathroom, his footsteps paused. "My stomach suddenly feels off. Mind if I borrow your restroom, Mr. Sinclair?"

"Don't open that door!" Summer yelled sharply, her voice spiking with the panicked urgency of someone hiding a massive secret.

Xavier grabbed the handle, shot her a knowing look, turned the knob, and pushed the door open.
