Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 289

Half an hour later.

Xavier rang the doorbell, and Summer opened it. She was dressed in casual loungewear, her hair cascading down her back, radiating the faint, fresh scent of body wash.

She had just showered.

It immediately brought to mind a post-coital shower.

Xavier stepped inside, bringing the biting chill of the night with him. His face was rigid, looking like someone had just murdered his dog.

Summer rolled her eyes. Crossing her arms over her chest, she stepped aside and kicked a pair of disposable slippers toward him. "Change your shoes."

Xavier noticed the framed photo of Summer and Leo by the entryway. Suddenly realizing where he was, he asked in disbelief, "This is your house?"

Summer turned and walked into the living room. Settling onto the beige sofa, she crossed her long legs and folded her arms. "Yeah. Is that a problem?"

"You brought a man home?"

Summer stared at him like he was a complete lunatic. "Who I bring home is none of your damn business."

Xavier walked over and took a seat. "I just hope you aren't bringing questionable men around to set a bad example for Leo."

Hadn't Xavier set enough bad examples himself?

He was the one who repeatedly brought his mistress and illegitimate son home.

How did he have the nerve to lecture her?

It was utterly laughable.

Summer pointed straight at the front door. "Then get the hell out."

Xavier took a deep breath, reminding himself that he wasn't here to fight.

Restoring his usual cold detachment, he handed over the folder. "Read it over. If everything looks good, sign."

Summer leaned back on the couch, the documents in hand. She read them quietly, her eyes lowered as the soft glow of the floor lamp cascaded over her.

She looked as if she were enveloped in a faint halo, appearing exceptionally gentle and delicate.

Outside, the wind howled and the icy rain pounded. Inside, it was warm and peaceful. There was a quiet, domestic coziness to the scene that inexplicably made a person feel grounded and relaxed.

Xavier couldn't help but stare, completely captivated—until a signed contract was tossed onto his lap.

Xavier grabbed the document and signed his name with a sharp flourish. Next came the share transfer agreement.

With everything settled, Summer stood up with her termination contract in hand, ready to kick him out. "Take care. I won't walk you to the door."

"I want to see Leo."

"He isn't here."

Xavier frowned. "Where is he?"

"Vacationing abroad."

The next day.

The venue of Xavier and Lily's wedding.

The ceremony was being held at a seven-star luxury hotel in Empire City. The setting was extravagantly dreamy, adorned with tens of thousands of Swarovski crystals that looked like a cascading waterfall of stars.
