Bennett forced down the violent thumping in his chest and quickly chimed in. "Exactly. What on earth are you talking about? You were right there when we did the paternity test."
Miles let out a dark scoff, watching the two of them desperately try to maintain the lie. "That old paternity test only checked her blood against yours. She's your illegitimate daughter with Lydia. Of course the results proved she was your kid."
Caught entirely off guard by the brutal truth, the color instantly drained from Bennett and Lydia's faces. Lily looked positively sickly.
"Miles," Lily cried softly, reaching out to grab his sleeve. "This has to be some kind of mistake. How could I not be your sister?"
Miles violently shook off her hand. "Don't call me that. I am not your brother."
Lily stared at him in utter devastation, tears pooling in her eyes as she perfected the image of a heartbroken, fragile victim.
Bennett erupted in fury. "What the hell are you doing?! Lily is the sister you cherish more than anyone. Besides, she's pregnant! Keep spouting this garbage, and I'll have you thrown out of this house!"
Lydia immediately switched tactics, tears welling up as she played the emotional card. "Miles, you have severely disappointed me. I have treated you like my own flesh and blood all these years. Is this really what you think of me? If it weren't for Leila and Lily, and my fear that this girl would suffer without a mother, do you think I ever would have married Bennett? What kind of monster do you think I am?"
"Drop the act," Miles retorted, his eyes flashing with disgust. "It's making me sick."
Slam! Bennett slammed his hand against the table, the veins in his forehead bulging. "Miles Sutton!"
Miles met his furious glare without blinking. "Bennett, I am bringing my real sister home. She has been stuck living in a rural hellhole for years, suffering every single day."
"Lily is my daughter!" Bennett roared. "And she is your sister!"
"No, she is not!" Miles didn't yell, but his voice was like iron.
Just then, the heavy oak doors cracked open, and Hunter poked his little head inside. "Daddy, will you come play with me?"
"Get the hell out of here!" Bennett bellowed at the child.
Hunter burst into terrified tears and was quickly ushered away by a frantic maid.
Miles lazily traced the rim of his teacup. "Here are my demands: you will formally welcome my sister back into this family. If you refuse, I will gladly leak the truth about Hunter's real father."
Everyone in that room knew exactly who Hunter's biological father was. The only person entirely in the dark was Xavier, who had spent years believing the boy was his own flesh and blood.
Because Hunter heavily resembled Lily, Xavier had never once questioned the lack of paternal resemblance.
Hunter's true parentage could absolutely not be exposed. Lydia immediately regretted not getting rid of the boy years ago, instead keeping him around like a ticking time bomb.
Back then, it was Miles who couldn't bear to abandon a child he thought belonged to his sister. He had stepped up, claiming the boy as his own and playing the role of a single father for years.
