Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 304

Turning to Lydia, he added, "Lydia, you've been incredibly kind to me all these years. You've looked out for me and supported my career. I remember that, and I'm not an ungrateful bastard. I'll keep my mouth shut about Hunter and the stolen patent to repay that debt. Don't worry. All I want is for my sister to come home, and for Lily to return what belongs to her."

Faced with Miles's masterful manipulation of threats and guilt, the Suttons eventually caved, though they stubbornly refused to submit to a DNA test.

Miles couldn't care less about the test. His only non-negotiable demand was that they host a massive, highly publicized recognition banquet in exactly two days.

After leaving the estate, Miles drove to a dilapidated, rundown neighborhood on the outskirts of the city.

He watched the rearview mirror like a hawk, clearly spotting the tail that had been following him the entire drive. He even intentionally slowed down so his pursuers could keep up.

He parked at the decaying apartment complex, picked up a plain, shabbily dressed girl, and took her straight to the mall for a modest shopping spree.

The spies sent by the Sutton family maintained their distance, snapping dozens of photos and recording videos of the pair.

Within hours, a comprehensive background check on the decoy girl was placed directly into the Suttons' hands.

The girl bore a faint resemblance to Lily, but her skin was dull and weathered. She was a middle-school dropout from a rural village who currently spent her days scrubbing tables at a greasy local diner.

If someone like her was brought into the Sutton family, she would be incredibly easy to manipulate and control. She posed absolutely zero threat to Lily.

She wouldn't even be able to make a ripple, let alone a wave.

Only then did the Sutton family finally breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Bennett quickly called Miles. "Set up a dinner. We should meet the girl."

Miles glanced over at Summer, who simply shook her head. "She's not going," Miles lied into the phone. "She's busy working a shift."

Bennett desperately wanted to ask what could possibly be so urgent about flipping burgers at a cheap diner.

"You'll see her at the banquet anyway," Miles added smoothly. "I'll bring her then."

Recalling the tragically tacky photos of the girl, Bennett scoffed. "Hire a stylist for her. Buy her a decent gown and some presentable jewelry. Don't let her look too pathetic. I won't have her humiliating this family."

Even though Lily and Xavier's wedding had been a public disaster, she had still successfully married him. She was the official Mrs. Sterling.

Xavier's net worth had taken a hit recently, but Sterling Group was an unstoppable corporate juggernaut. It wouldn't be long before his ranking on the billionaire index skyrocketed once again.

Thanks to their connection to Xavier, the Sutton family's status in Empire City had surged, firmly cementing their place among the city's elite circles.

The Suttons had originally planned to ambush the girl and secretly harvest a DNA sample for their own testing, but Miles had moved the decoy straight into his apartment, keeping her under 24-hour surveillance.

They couldn't find a single opening to make a move.

They even considered going after Miles himself, but his prior warnings echoed in their heads.
