A piercing scream echoed through the entire mansion.

The fruit knife had driven straight through Ethan's hand. Blood poured out, but despite the agonizing pain, he didn't dare let go of the ledge. This was the third floor.

If he fell and got unlucky, he might not die, but he would definitely be paralyzed.

Urgent knocking rattled the door.

"Summer! Summer!" Miles's voice was frantic.

Summer methodically washed the blood from her hands in the sink before walking over to unlock the door.

Summer raised an eyebrow. "Vicious? More vicious than a 'cousin' climbing into my bedroom window in the middle of the night? What exactly was his plan?"

Ethan hissed through the pain. "I was sleepwalking!"

Eleanor immediately backed him up. "Exactly! He has a sleepwalking condition. He wanders around the house at night all the time."

Summer let out a dry laugh. "How incredibly coincidental. I sleepwalk too. But my sleepwalking is strictly confined to my own room. I don't go scaling walls to peek into others' windows. And considering I'm on the third floor, he's more impressive than a lizard to climb that high in his sleep."

Eleanor glared at her. "Stop with your sarcastic remarks! You attacked him without provocation. I'm calling the cops."

"Go ahead, call them. I'd love to ask the police what a woman is supposed to do to defend herself when a biologically unrelated man crawls into her bedroom at three in the morning."

Eleanor hadn't expected Summer to have such a sharp tongue, completely unyielding.

The late-night intrusion was a calculated plot between mother and son.

Ethan lusted after Summer's stunning face and figure.

Eleanor wanted Ethan to become Xavier's brother-in-law. With that connection, their family's business ventures would be infinitely smoother.
