Lilith choked on her words, her chest heaving with rage as her face turned an ugly shade of pale.
Xavier carefully wiped the spit off Lilith, his expression turning downright glacial. "Summer, that's enough!"
Summer scoffed, gently ushering the unharmed child out of the room.
To ensure they wouldn't face Lilith's wrath later, Summer gave the maid a generous severance package of fifty thousand dollars. The woman quit on the spot and left the Sutton household immediately.
Inside Bennett's study.
Bennett brewed a pot of tea himself, overly attentive and laying on the fatherly affection thick.
Summer traced the rim of her teacup. "I can join the Sutton Group, but I want equity."
Bennett was perfectly willing to give her money, a house, or a luxury car, but shares were out of the question.
While he hesitated, Lilith chimed in. "Dad, if she gets shares for joining the company, then I want to join too."
Bennett feigned a look of dilemma. "Well, this..."
Summer lifted her gaze to Lilith. "Are you really comparing yourself to me? Any company I walk into right now would hand me shares on a silver platter."
Lilith scoffed. "Summer! Who do you think you're looking down on? So what if you won an award? So what if you have patents? Like you're the only one."
"Is that right? If you're so brilliant, then why didn't Professor Banks take you under his wing? How strange."
Summer's sarcasm was razor-sharp, and Lilith's hands instantly balled into fists. She wanted nothing more than to punch Summer right in the face.
"Professor Banks will eventually take me as a student."
"I'll be waiting for that day."
Bennett smoothly played the peacemaker. "Summer, Lilith, you two are my only daughters. One day, the company will naturally fall into your hands."
"How about this? You both join the company to prove yourselves. I'll set up a special equity reward pool. Whoever makes the most significant contribution to the company will win the shares I've set aside."
Summer asked, "How much equity are you putting up?"
Bennett replied, "Five percent."
Summer pressed on, "And what's the evaluation period? A quarter, six months, or a year?"
"One year. We'll measure success based on the net profit each of you brings in."
Bennett was playing a brilliant game of chess.
If Lilith wanted to win, she would inevitably lean on Xavier for help. With the Sterling Group's backing, the Sutton Group's growth would skyrocket.
Meanwhile, for Summer to win, she'd have to rely on her own exceptional expertise or connections like Harrison Banks.
Either way, Bennett would be the ultimate winner.
Summer thoughtfully set her teacup down and looked at Lilith. "Want to make it a little more interesting?"
Interesting?
Lilith stared back, trying to figure out what kind of trap Summer was setting.
Summer smiled serenely, looking completely calm and utterly confident.
