Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 360

Just then, the sound of the door opening echoed through the room. She looked up to see Xavier stepping into the hospital room.

Summer had never felt such intense repulsion toward another human being; just looking at him made her nauseous.

Covering her mouth, Summer bolted into the bathroom and threw up.

She knew her chronic stomach issues had flared up, triggered by the horrific video, her erratic eating habits, and severe lack of sleep.

Xavier paused. He grabbed a bottle of water and followed her to check on her. "Are you okay?"

Summer shoved the bottle away. "I'll be fine as long as you stay away from me."

"Summer, don't be so ungrateful. If it weren't for Leo, do you think I'd even bother with you?"

"Xavier, I'm begging you to stay away from me. Looking at you makes me want to vomit. You are absolutely sickening!"

Xavier's patience completely evaporated. His eyes darkened with hostility, and his icy voice carried a lethal warning. "Summer!"

He was warning her not to push her luck.

Summer let out a low, breathless laugh, her head bowed before she slowly turned to look at him. Perhaps because she had just thrown up, her small face looked incredibly pale and fragile. Her red-rimmed eyes were bright with tears, shimmering through the haze.

She looked pitifully beautiful, yet fiercely resilient—like a solitary flower blooming stubbornly in the freezing snow on a mountain peak.

Xavier's heart gave an involuntary, painful throb. He narrowed his eyes, his dark gaze swirling like a stormy night. Whatever he was thinking, he kept it to himself.

But in the very next second, Summer's gaze sharpened into blades, stabbing straight into his soul. "Xavier, those were two human lives. You really went out of your way to drag Miles down, throwing away every last shred of human decency. You're no different from an animal."

*Crack.* Xavier squeezed the plastic water bottle so hard it deformed in his grip. One more ounce of pressure and it would burst.

With a piercing, freezing glare, he gritted his teeth and demanded, "Summer, is that really the kind of man you think I am?"

"No," Summer looked at him with sheer loathing. "You're not a man. You're an animal."

There was zero warmth in Xavier's abyssal gaze. The air pressure around him dropped so low it felt solid.

A second later, he let out a mocking scoff. "Summer, the business world is a battlefield. If you're outplayed, don't stand there crying foul."

"I know business is a battlefield. You can use money, power, and influence. You can use strategy. But resorting to such filthy, underhanded tactics is truly revolting. Ugh—"

Summer gagged and threw up again.

With a face like thunder, Xavier turned on his heel and walked out. He went back into the main room, sat by the bed, and quietly watched Leo.

Leo was supposed to head off to a prestigious training camp, but with his current condition, that was impossible.

Professor Harrison Banks and his senior colleague rushed to the hospital. Seeing Leo lying pale and frail on the bed made the two elderly men's eyes immediately go red with anger.
