Xavier shot Summer a sideways glance and asked, "What are you doing here? Where is Leo? If you're here, who's watching him?"
Summer met his gaze with absolute indifference. "If you're so worried about Leo, why don't you go take care of him?"
Xavier: "..."
Summer's eyes dripped with pure mockery. "Since you don't actually want to do it, drop the fake concern. It's revolting."
A flash of raw anger ignited in Xavier's eyes. "Summer, do you have to speak to me like that?"
Summer replied coldly, "Don't worry. Leo is in good hands. The person watching him is far more reliable than you."
For some reason, Silas Sinclair's face instantly flashed in Xavier's mind.
Rage churned in Xavier's gut. "Silas Sinclair?"
Summer didn't bother answering him. There was no need, and she simply didn't want to.
But Silas was indeed taking care of Leo. He had accompanied Alaric Sinclair to the hospital for a checkup, and afterward, they had both gone straight to Leo's room.
The two of them had practically begged to watch the boy.
Leaving Leo with them brought Summer far more peace of mind than leaving him with Xavier.
The four of them stepped into the elevator together.
The elevator doors were mirrored, perfectly reflecting everyone's figures.
Xavier accidentally brushed against Summer's hand.
Utter disgust instantly hijacked Summer's expression. She pulled a wet wipe from her purse and vigorously scrubbed the exact spot Xavier had touched.
She treated the brief contact as if Xavier were carrying a highly infectious supervirus.
Xavier turned his head, watching her scrub her hand with a completely deadpan expression, though his eyes grew colder by the second.
This entire silent exchange was perfectly reflected in the mirrored doors, and Lilith didn't miss a single detail.
A flash of furious resentment sparked in Lilith's eyes. She abruptly tightened her grip on Xavier's arm.
Only then did Xavier tear his gaze away and look down at Lilith. "What's wrong?" he asked gently.
Lilith flashed him a sickeningly sweet smile. "Xavier, I think I just felt the baby kick. It startled me."
"Really?" Pure joy instantly lit up Xavier's face and eyes.
Lilith nodded sweetly at him, but from the corner of her eye, she was shooting daggers at Summer.
Summer completely ignored them both. She was busy watching a video Silas had just sent her.
Alaric Sinclair was sitting with Leo, learning sign language together. The old man was incredibly focused, and the two were currently racing to see who could memorize the signs faster.
Outside the conference room.
After verifying her identity with the staff, Lilith turned to Summer with an elegant smirk. "Summer, you can't go in there. This is a private shareholder meeting."
Summer looked at her, the corners of her lips curling up slightly. "What makes you so sure I'm not a shareholder?"
The smug smile froze on Lilith's face. Realizing the implication, she instantly glared at Miles.
But so what? Even if Miles had transferred his shares to her, they couldn't change the inevitable outcome.
Today, Miles was guaranteed to be replaced by the board's hand-picked puppet.
