Hunter Sutton took a severe thrashing from Miles Sutton.
In Hunter's memory, Miles had never laid a hand on him. This was a first.
His backside was entirely on fire.
It hurt, and it was upsetting, but more than anything, he felt sheer hatred.
He hated Leo Vance for stealing Miles away. Even though Miles wasn't his biological father, he used to treat him wonderfully and gave him whatever he wanted.
But now, Miles didn't want him anymore. He wasn't allowed to call him Dad, and he wasn't allowed to follow him around.
He was currently living with the Suttons, but his grandparents disliked him. His aunt was only nice to him when she was in a good mood, and fiercely mean when she wasn't.
Nobody loved him. He was an unwanted child.
Between the burning pain in his backside and the heartbreak, Hunter wailed at the top of his lungs, his cries echoing through the entire office floor.
Anyone passing by would have thought a child was being murdered.
Just as Summer Vance and her team finished their meeting, they walked out of the conference room and witnessed the scene.
Lilith Sutton was among the crowd. Supporting her heavily pregnant belly, she stepped forward and pulled Hunter behind her. "Miles, why are you hitting Hunter? He's just a child. If you have something to say, say it nicely. You can't just resort to violence."
Miles stared at Hunter cowering behind her. "Hunter, watch your mouth. If you ever curse at Leo again, or say another vile word, I'll sew your lips shut."
Hunter pointed a trembling finger at Leo and sobbed, "He insulted me too!"
Leo gently stroked Serenity, the little kitten resting on his lap, and asked calmly, "What did I call you?"
Hunter puffed out his cheeks in fury. "You called me an idiot!"
Leo simply smiled and said nothing.
Realizing he had just played himself, Hunter let out another furious wail.
But Lilith was in no mood to comfort him. She looked at Leo with a flicker of suspicion. "Leo, is your hearing back? Can you hear what we're saying?"
Leo stared back at her with wide, dark eyes, blinking vacantly as if he hadn't heard a single word.
Pushing her suspicions aside, Lilith urged Hunter to apologize. "Hunter, Leo can't hear, and his legs aren't well. No matter what happened, you need to be the bigger person and take care of him. Apologize to Leo right now."
Her words sounded magnanimous on the surface.
In reality, they were purely meant to provoke.
She framed the situation not as Hunter bullying someone, but as Leo using his disability to act unreasonably.
Summer wasn't about to let that slide. Her tone turned icy. "Manager Sutton, I just checked the office security footage. Hunter didn't just abuse the cats; he hurled unprovoked insults at my son. I expect him to give a proper apology to Leo and to the kitten for both offenses."
As she spoke, the security footage she had uploaded to the company's group chat successfully sent.
Hearing the notification chime, everyone tapped open the video.
The first frame showed Hunter aggressively yanking the ears and tails of the two office cats.
The terrified animals scrambled to escape, letting out sharp, miserable screeches.
