Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 402

Carlson had absolutely zero patience for this right now. He waved her off dismissively. "Another day."

Annoyed that Summer was blocking their path, Zelda shoved her aggressively. But to her shock, Summer instantly grabbed her wrist in an iron grip.

"Mrs. Sterling, haven't you been obsessing over getting Leo officially removed from this family? We're literally seconds away from making it happen."

Zelda ripped her arm free with a furious sneer. "Back off! Leo's little paperwork is nothing compared to Xander!"

Xavier stormed up right behind them. His face was a mask of cold fury as he aggressively pried Summer's hand away, the air around him practically dropping to freezing.

Summer raised an eyebrow. Was he actually upset that his older brother was finally awake?

On second thought, it made perfect sense. He had stolen his older brother's girlfriend.

It was going to be incredibly entertaining watching him try to explain that to Xander.

This was bound to be an absolute spectacle.

The Sterling family tore out of the memorial wing in an absolute frenzy, and in the blink of an eye, Summer and Leo were the only ones left standing there.

"Mom, what do we do now?" Leo tilted his head up to look at her.

They were already here, and Summer absolutely refused to make a second trip for this.

Summer grabbed the handles of Leo's wheelchair and steered him out of the wing. "Come on, let's go watch the show. Once they've calmed down over there, maybe we can get them to sign the Deed of Severance."

After all, the Sterling ancestors had already granted permission. The rest of the process was incredibly straightforward—open the family ledger, cross out the name, and sign the legally binding Deed of Severance in triplicate.

Then, they would be completely free.

Having spent so many years trapped in the Sterling family, Summer knew exactly where Xander's quarters were located.

Xander lived in a completely isolated private wing.

The moment they stepped inside, the overwhelming, sterile scent of hospital-grade disinfectant hit them.

It was essentially a state-of-the-art private hospital. The absolute peak of international medical equipment was crammed into every corner of the suite.

Inside Xander's room.

A massive team of elite medical specialists in white coats was crowded tightly around the bed. Seeing the Sterling family rush in, they immediately parted to clear a path.

"Xander!" Carlson cried out, his whole body trembling violently as Xavier supported his weight, walking toward the bed.

Arthur was right behind them, holding up Zelda, who was already sobbing so hard she was practically gasping for air.

Lilith's position in all of this was incredibly awkward. She kept her head down, shrinking behind Xavier's broad shoulders, desperately trying to erase her own presence in the room.

Summer silently wheeled Leo into the back of the room, standing quietly behind the wall of doctors.

Xander had just regained consciousness. Though his body looked gaunt and withered from years of atrophy, his eyes held a sharp, lucid energy. Because he hadn't used his vocal cords in years, his voice was incredibly raspy.

Even a man as notoriously ruthless and cold-blooded as Carlson had tears streaming down his face. His wrinkled hands trembled uncontrollably as he grabbed Xander's painfully thin fingers.

The old man patted his grandson's hand over and over, completely breaking down into violent sobs. "You're awake... thank God you're awake."

Overwhelmed by the crushing wave of emotion, Xander's eyes immediately reddened. "Grandpa. I'm sorry for making you worry."

He shifted his gaze to Arthur, whose eyes were shining with unshed tears, and then to Zelda, who was weeping uncontrollably. "Dad. Mom. I'm so sorry for putting you all through this."

Zelda shook her head frantically, tears flying from her cheeks. "It's not your fault! It's the fault of that drunk driver, and it's the fault of... it's the fault of..."
