"Summer?" Xander stared blankly at her, the rage in his eyes momentarily replaced by sheer confusion.

Summer offered a polite, radiant smile. "Hello. My name is Summer Vance. I am Lilith's half-sister, which is why we look so remarkably similar. I don't blame you for mixing us up."

"You..." Xander furrowed his brows deeply. "What are you doing in the Sterling estate?"

"I'm just here to finalize some paperwork," Summer replied breezily. "I was literally in the middle of getting it sorted when you woke up. As soon as we're done here, I'll be out of your hair."

"Oh." Xander nodded slowly, falling silent.

But the rest of the Sterling family was entirely fixated on the horrifying accusation he had just dropped. Carlson's face was terrifyingly grim. "Xander, what exactly did you mean by what you just said? Was Lily responsible for your accident?"

Xander nodded heavily. "Lily and I were having a massive fight about breaking up. She was completely hysterical. A massive truck lost control and came barreling toward us. On pure instinct, I lunged forward and shoved her out of the way, but I twisted my ankle in the process. And instead of pulling me back... she violently shoved me directly into the path of the truck. She left me to die."

His gaze slowly shifted toward Xavier. "Because with me out of the picture, she'd finally be free to be with Xavier."

"Xander." Xavier's voice cracked pitifully. His face was a ghastly, sickly pale, and his mind was a chaotic, tangled mess.
