Noticing Summer's pale expression, Gregory asked with concern, "You don't look well, Summer. Is it because of the accident? You really should have gone straight to the hospital. You work too hard."
Summer couldn't disrespect Gregory; this wasn't their only potential collaboration, and there would be future opportunities.
She couldn't afford to offend him.
Forcing a smile, Summer raised her teacup to toast him in place of alcohol.
Lilith deliberately picked a fight. "Summer, I distinctly remember you being quite the drinker."
Refusing to drink when capable was considered a snub in business, and Gregory's expression predictably soured.
Summer replied calmly, "As you know, Lilith, I was just in a car crash. I have a lingering headache and pushed through just to be here."
She then looked at Gregory with genuine apology. "I am so sorry, Gregory. Next time, I promise the drinks are on me."
After enduring an utterly nauseating meal, they finally saw Gregory off.
Dropping the forced smile, Summer's expression turned glacial.
She glared at Xavier. "You orchestrated all of this today, didn't you?"
She wasn't sure if the dog falling from the car was planned, but that wildly unreasonable driver definitely was.
As for the road closure, Xavier could arrange that with a single phone call.
The coincidental meeting at the restaurant was even easier to track.
This was undeniably a premeditated trap.
Xavier stuffed his hands into his pockets and frowned at Summer. "Summer, Lilith helped you secure the deal. If you're not going to be grateful, who do you think you're interrogating? Besides, a mere billion-dollar contract isn't worth me getting my hands dirty."
"You might look down on it, but your wife certainly doesn't." Summer flipped the contract open. "Take a look at whose name is signed here."
Lilith looped her arm through Xavier's. "That's my fault. When I signed on your behalf, out of habit, I wrote my own name. But don't worry, this project will still be credited to you."
"Credited to me?" Summer scoffed. "This was mine to begin with. Why would I need you to credit it to me?"
Summer tossed the contract back at Lilith. "Keep it. Consider it charity."
Summer turned to leave, but Lilith grabbed her arm. "You're really misunderstanding this."
"Let go." Summer frowned.
Hearing the edge in Summer's voice, her bodyguard instantly stepped up. "Please release my boss."
Lilith let go.
Summer grimaced in disgust and held out her hand. Her bodyguard immediately handed her an antibacterial wipe.
Looking down, Summer meticulously cleaned every single finger.
She treated Lilith as if she were carrying some highly infectious plague.
Lilith watched her, her face devoid of expression. "What is the meaning of this, Summer? I helped you out of the kindness of my heart. If you won't say thank you, fine, but there is no need to humiliate me."
Seeing Summer finish wiping her hands, the bodyguard extended his hand again, taking the soiled wipe from her.
Summer raised her eyes to Lilith. "You really don't understand? Disgust. Repulsion. Who knows what kind of viruses you're carrying? Furthermore,"
