And on the day he finally woke from his vegetative state, the first people he saw were Summer and Leo. In that fleeting moment, between hazy consciousness and a desperate subconscious desire to erase his traumatic past, he genuinely believed Leo was his own son.
God, how he wished Leo was his son.
He had loved Summer.
But fate was cruel. After the scandal, Lilith became his official girlfriend.
Xavier met Summer around that same time and began relentlessly pursuing her.
Xander had privately confronted Xavier, warning him not to use Summer as a sick replacement for Lilith.
But back then, the brothers were utterly estranged because of Lilith.
Whatever Xander said, Xavier deliberately did the opposite.
Driven by pure rebellion, Xavier had scoffed, "Who says I'm using her as a replacement? I actually like Summer!"
"You already have your own girlfriend, Xander. Stop sticking your nose in my business."
It was true; he was already tainted. Lilith was officially his.
What right or authority did he have to interfere?
If he could have foreseen the future—if he had known that bastard Xavier would manipulate Summer into a fraudulent marriage, trap her as a proxy for seven years, and casually commit infidelity—he would have stopped him at all costs.
Recalling the past, Xander's eyes grew cold and detached.
Lilith had repaid his family's kindness with betrayal, orchestrating the accident that nearly killed him and stealing eight years of his life.
She had knowingly acted as the other woman, destroying Summer's life and subjecting her to seven years of suffering.
The sheer disgust Xander felt for Lilith intensified. His voice was freezing as he said, "Never mention Lilith's name in this house again."
Sensing his dark mood, Zelda asked anxiously, "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
The entire family treated Xander like fragile glass. A single frown or sneeze from him was enough to send Zelda into a panic.
"I'm fine, Mom," Xander offered a gentle smile.
"I'm just tired of listening to these arguments. Haven't you noticed? Every single fight in this house revolves around her."
Zelda huffed indignantly. "Master Lucius said she is a jinx. She was sent to ruin this family. Without her, everything would be perfect. But with her here, it's endless disasters. She's draining all our good fortune."
Xavier opened his mouth to argue, but Xander shot him a look.
In the past, Xavier had deliberately antagonized Xander, but they were blood brothers. The care Xander had shown him during their childhood was undeniably real.
Knowing Xander had lost eight years of his life because of Lilith, all of Xavier's past resentment had evaporated.
Now, he felt nothing but crushing guilt toward his older brother.
