Right at that moment, several of the other senior executives voiced their objections.
"Mr. Sterling, Director Vance is a veteran of this company. She's been with us for years and knows the operations inside and out. Swapping her out so suddenly might disrupt our business."
Several other vice presidents nodded in agreement.
"Exactly, Mr. Sterling. We aren't fully acquainted with Ms. Sutton's capabilities yet. Isn't such a sudden replacement a bit hasty?"
"That's right. Director Vance's competence and contributions are clear to everyone. Could you perhaps reconsider?"
The executives speaking up usually had a solid working relationship with Summer.
Xavier cast a half-smile at Summer. The curl of his thin lips and the coldness in his eyes looked indescribably ruthless and unfeeling.
His implication was obvious.
He thought Summer had secretly coordinated with these executives to lobby on her behalf.
Summer caught the look and cursed inwardly: You arrogant jerk! This is purely because of my own competence. They spoke up for me on their own.
Xavier withdrew his gaze and shot a glance at his assistant, Paige.
Paige operated the laptop, and Lily's background profile appeared on the projector screen.
It detailed her alma mater, the projects she had been involved in, the awards she had won, and even a patent registered under her name.
Summer wasn't surprised. She had seen the news of Lily's awards before.
Back then, she had no idea about the dirty history between Lily and Xavier.
Watching those interviews through a screen, she had genuinely thought Lily was a brilliant, beautiful talent who had also graduated from their shared alma mater, Empire State University.
As a fellow woman in tech, she had actually admired her.
Lily followed Summer into the manager's office, her eyes sweeping the room as if appraising her new territory.
Summer didn't say a word. None of this mattered anymore. She tapped on her computer, and the printer spat out the handover documents she had prepared in advance.
Once printed, she handed them over to Lily. "The critical permissions, operational details, and key upcoming projects are all listed here. Read it over first. Ask me if there's anything you don't understand."
A hint of mockery flashed in Lily's eyes. She took the file and flipped through it casually, clearly not taking it seriously.
Summer rapped her knuckles on the desk, reminding her to pay attention. After all, she didn't want to spend her post-resignation days getting constantly harassed by her former company.
Having them call her every day about things they didn't know how to do would be incredibly annoying.
Lily haughtily raised an eyebrow. "Did you not look at my academic background just now? I've been competing in computer science tournaments since middle school and won countless awards. I graduated from the computer science program at Empire State University, spent seven years studying abroad, and hold my own patents. Do you really think I wouldn't understand this?"
Summer continued packing her things without even looking up. "Do you need a round of applause for how amazing you are, Wildflower Lily?"
