Hearing the nickname 'Wildflower Lily,' Lily frowned, but a moment later, she relaxed and laughed.
"Summer, I know you're jealous of me, but acting like this is incredibly classless and undignified."
"Did I just hear a joke?" Summer looked up with a sarcastic scoff. "I'm jealous of you? I'm classless? Why would I be jealous of a stray wildflower? Is being someone's side piece considered classy and dignified now?"
Lily slammed the folder shut. "Pack your things and get the hell out! I need to redecorate this office."
Summer wanted nothing more than to finish the handover and leave early. She clicked her mouse. "Come here. There's something I need to demonstrate to you, otherwise—"
Lily interrupted her impatiently. "I said I understand. Summer, do you not understand English, or are you just dragging your feet because you don't want to leave? If you really can't bear to go, you don't have to make up excuses here. Go beg Xavier right now. Tell him you were wrong and apologize to me. He might just change his mind and let you stay as my deputy."
Summer scoffed. Did she really think she cared about staying in this place?
She asked, "Are you sure you don't need me to show you?"
"I don't need it."
"And you're sure there's nothing you don't understand, nothing you need to ask me about?"
"Nothing."
"Great. Then please sign the handover document."
"I'll sign it."
Summer nodded, decisively shut her laptop, picked up her box of belongings, and walked out of the office.
Outside, a crowd of employees had gathered at some point. Many of them were veterans who had worked under Summer for years.
"Director Vance, are you really leaving?"
"Director, our company just made it to the finals in the Global Tech Competition. If you leave now, then... then..."
Summer cut them off, patting his shoulder gently. "Keep up the good work."
She then looked around at the rest of her team. "Everyone, I'll see you around."
Carrying her box, Summer headed down to the HR Director's office.
Furthermore, Lily was currently inside the CEO's office.
Who knew what they were doing in there? If, by some stroke of bad luck, the official wife walked in on them being intimate, Paige's resignation wouldn't be enough to save her skin.
Paige and the bodyguards stood their ground, refusing to budge an inch. "I apologize. Please leave."
Just then, Julian Hawthorne and Miles Sutton stepped out of the executive elevator.
Seeing Summer barred from entering, Julian failed to hide his emotions. Summer caught the blatant schadenfreude dancing in his eyes.
Miles, on the other hand, was an expert at faking it, remaining as utterly hypocritical as ever.
He offered a gentlemanly greeting. "Ms. Vance, looking for Xavier?"
"Are you blind?" Summer shot back impatiently.
Julian clicked his tongue. "Summer, did you eat gunpowder for breakfast? Miles hasn't done anything to provoke you. Getting fired is entirely your own fault. Xavier treated you like royalty. If you wanted the moon, he'd never settle for giving you the stars. He bent over backward for you. Now look at how you've repaid him."
"You slapped him in front of outsiders, refused to trust him, slandered him, and even called the cops to arrest his grandfather. Are these things a wife should do? Any other man would have divorced you ages ago, yet here you are, still throwing a tantrum."
