Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 453

Xavier Sterling had a temper too. Being repeatedly provoked and mocked finally struck a nerve. He let out a dark chuckle. "Put me in my place? Summer, the wind is blowing pretty hard out here. Aren't you afraid of choking on your own words?"

Summer laughed softly against the breeze. "I know you're confident, Mr. Sterling. But people change. Don't underestimate your opponent."

Xavier shot a glance at Silas Sinclair. "Isn't Mr. Sinclair my opponent? Or is he incapable of handling things himself and needs a woman to fight his battles?"

Silas smiled. "You misunderstand, Mr. Sterling. A gentleman never steals someone else's thunder. Summer said she wanted to put you in your place personally, which makes her your opponent."

Xavier scoffed coldly. "We'll see who puts who in their place."

Summer gave him an indifferent look. "Then let's just wait and see."

The six of them split into three teams.

Summer paired with Silas, Vivian West with Julian Vane, and Xavier with Wilson.

The team with the highest overall score would be the winner.

Silas offered modestly, "I'm decent enough. I won't drag you down."

Summer smiled back. "I'm alright too. I won't hold you back either."

As it turned out, overachievers were always chronically humble. They loved saying things like "I'm decent," "I'm alright," or "Not too bad."

It was only when the actual showdown began that everyone realized those words were absolute lies.

Julian looked at his wife. "Honey, do you want me to win or lose?"

Vivian clicked her tongue. "You better play your heart out. I played a round with Summer back home, and her skills are phenomenal. Don't embarrass yourself too badly."

Julian looked offended. "You have that little faith in your husband?"

"I have little faith in myself," Vivian sighed helplessly, then tipped her chin toward Silas. "Silas is a wolf in sheep's clothing—ruthlessly cunning beneath that polite exterior. His golf game is definitely top-tier. Just wait and watch the two of them absolutely humiliate that scumbag Xavier!"

Sensing eyes on him, Silas noticed Vivian watching. Since she was his future wife's best friend, he knew he couldn't afford to be rude.

He offered a polite, charming nod to her and Julian.

Xavier never expected Summer to know how to play golf, much less play it flawlessly.

He remembered Summer mentioning in the past that Zelda Sterling used to make her life miserable specifically because she didn't know how to play.

She had asked him to teach her, but he had always been too busy. He never had the time.

Eventually, the request just faded away.

Because of that, watching Summer swing her club with such crisp, elegant precision—sinking a hole-in-one—left him utterly stunned.

He was so shocked he couldn't process it for a long time.
