But Summer had no formal ties to Silas Sinclair.
The boardroom broke into hushed, skeptical murmurs.
Bennett shot a withering look at Lilith before rapping his knuckles on the table. "Quiet down. I spoke with Mr. Sinclair on the phone last night. He personally promised that if Summer steps in as Acting CEO, he will host a dinner with the bank representatives on our behalf."
As long as they could appease the banks and stop the early loan recalls, the Sutton Group's current cash flow was sufficient to keep their remaining projects running. Once those projects were delivered and the final payments came through, they would be safe.
The Sutton Group would effortlessly survive this crisis.
Immediately following the meeting, the Sutton Group posted an official announcement on their website. It stated that due to personal reasons, Lilith Sutton had resigned from her position as Acting CEO and would no longer hold any role within the company.
Inside the executive office.
"Dad, what the hell was that?!" Lilith screamed furiously at Bennett, her arm wildly swinging and knocking an ornament off the desk.
Crash!
An expensive crystal sculpture shattered into a dozen pieces across the floor.
Scarlett Pierce scolded her sharply. "Miss Sutton, can't you see your father is still on an IV drip? He already burned all his bridges trying to protect you, but you ruined it yourself by doing something so shameful. How is he supposed to help you now? Do you really have the nerve to yell at him?"
Lilith spun on her. "Who the hell are you to lecture me? Know your place!"
Scarlett replied calmly, her tone completely level. "Miss Sutton, we live in a modern society where everyone is equal. I just care about Mr. Sutton's health, and I couldn't stand by and watch you treat him like this."
"He finally started recovering, and now his health has collapsed again because of your scandal. Who knows how long it'll take him to recover this time."
Lilith was now tasting the bitter reality of dealing with a manipulative homewrecker. She furiously pointed at the office door. "Get the hell out of here! I'm talking to my father! You have no right to interfere!"
Scarlett's eyes instantly welled up with tears. They brimmed perfectly along her lower lashes, and she masterfully held them back so they wouldn't fall.
She didn't argue or throw a tantrum. She simply adjusted the drip rate on Bennett's IV bag, gave a slight bow, and whispered softly, "Mr. Sutton, I apologize. I overstepped my bounds. I'll wait outside. Please, have a good talk with your daughter. Just call for me if you need anything. I'll be right outside the door."
Watching Scarlett's flawless act of victimhood, Lilith turned blue in the face with rage.
"You shameless slut! Don't you dare play the innocent victim with me! Have you looked in a mirror lately? You're a disgusting hag! Get out!"
Ever since his medical crisis, Bennett had been suffering from chronic migraines. He usually managed them with quiet rest and Scarlett's gentle massages.
Right now, Lilith's shrill screaming felt like steel needles driving directly into his temples. The pain made him incredibly irritable.
"Lilith! Take a look at yourself! Are you a raving lunatic?"
"Dad?!" Lilith stared at Bennett in pure disbelief. "You're taking the side of an outsider? Everyone knows exactly what she's trying to do! She's trying to destroy our family and ruin your relationship with Mom!"
Scarlett shook her head frantically. "I'm not. You're misunderstanding my intentions, Miss Sutton."
To be fair, Scarlett really hadn't done anything aggressive. She simply dedicated all her time to taking meticulous care of Bennett.
She just occasionally 'tripped' to expose a sliver of her slim waist.
