Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 50

"Go back and tell my grandfather that I will return tomorrow to explain everything."

Willard was stubbornly inflexible. Aside from the old patriarch, he listened to absolutely no one. "Sir, those were not my orders."

"Willard!" Xavier's voice turned glacial. "Don't push your luck!"

Summer found a chair and sat down, watching the confrontation from a safe distance, praying she wouldn't get dragged into the crossfire.

Suddenly, she felt something nudging against her leg.

Startled, Summer looked down, only to see—

A wolf!

"Ah!"

Summer's shriek instantly drew everyone's attention.

Terrified, she froze completely, pointing a trembling finger at the creature by her leg, looking like she was about to cry. "There... there's a wolf."

Lily was deeply amused by Summer's pathetic panic. A sneer flickered in her eyes before she raised her brow and called out smugly, "Fang, come here."

But the wolf didn't budge. It stayed glued to Summer's leg, rubbing its head against her while wagging its tail exactly like a dog, doing its best to win her over.

Summer was bewildered.

Lily frowned, a flash of disgust cutting across her eyes.

The wolf actually belonged to Xavier, who had raised it like a treasure. When Lily had gone abroad, he had given it to her.

He claimed it would keep her company in his place.

The beast was usually aloof and completely ignored her.

But they had lived together for seven years, and it generally obeyed her basic commands.

Yet right now, it didn't just ignore her call—it was actively fawning over Summer.

An animal is just an animal. An ungrateful, untameable beast!

"Fang! Lily is calling you. Come here!" Xavier commanded.

The wolf twitched and glanced at Xavier, but after a single look, it refused to move again.

It panted happily at Summer, its dark, bright eyes fixated on her intently.

It was the first time Summer had ever seen a look of sycophantic flattery on the face of a wolf.

Was it actually trying to suck up to her?

Summer slowly let her guard down and cautiously called out, "Fang?"

"Awoo~"

Fang barked excitedly, flopping onto his back and exposing his soft belly to Summer, practically begging for belly rubs.

Summer was stunned again.

Was this really a wolf?

A wolf acting exactly like a dog?

Xavier's passenger seat was hers alone!

Lily spoke up weakly, "Xavier, I get carsick. I want to sit in the front."

Xavier looked at Summer. "Summer, sit in the back."

Summer raised an eyebrow and looked at Lily, who offered her a frail smile that barely masked the glaring triumph in her eyes.

Lily was doing this on purpose.

Summer knew it, but she didn't argue. She simply got out of the car.

Lily smirked. "Thank you, Summer. You came all the way out here to pick me up, and now you're giving up your seat for me."

Xavier carefully helped Lily into the passenger seat and considerately fastened her seatbelt.

As Summer circled the front of the car and pulled open the driver's side door, Xavier shut the passenger door for Lily.

Summer slid into the driver's seat, slammed the door, and locked it all in one swift motion.

Lily, trapped in the passenger seat, was stunned.

With everything locked down, Summer turned to Lily with a bright smile. "You're welcome. Sit tight and hold on to your seatbelt."

Lily gritted her teeth, but she couldn't open her door.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Heavy pounding hit the glass as Xavier's anxious face pressed against the window. "Summer, open the door!"
