She truly looked like someone pushed to the brink, entirely different from her usual manipulative self.
Xavier closed his eyes. "Wait for me outside."
Half an hour later, freshly showered and dressed in black loungewear, Xavier walked lazily into the living room, hands stuffed in his pockets.
Lilith sat upright on the sofa, clutching a teacup.
Xavier didn't step closer. He halted, staring at her with dark, unreadable eyes. "What is it?"
Lilith set her cup down. "Silas is deliberately targeting Zenith Tech."
"And?" Xavier asked, expressionless.
"He's your sworn enemy."
Xavier glared at her. "You're trying to say you're taking the fall for me."
Lilith's eyes welled with sorrow. "Xavier, I don't know who else to turn to. My mom is hospitalized, my dad is tangled up with his new mistress, and you're the only one I have left."
"Even though we've split up and I did you wrong, the bond we shared at the orphanage was real, wasn't it?"
At the mention of their past, a flash of pain flickered in Xavier's eyes. "I understand. You can leave now," he replied coldly.
Lilith wanted to say more, but sensing his obvious impatience, she had no choice but to leave.
As she exited Xavier's house, Paige Brooks immediately stepped out of the car to open the door.
After being fired by Xavier, Paige had gone to work for Lilith as her assistant.
"Where to now, Boss?" Paige asked. "Back to the office?"
"Yes." Exhausted, Lilith closed her eyes to rest.
Paige drove as smoothly as possible. "What did Mr. Sterling say? Is he willing to help?"
Lilith opened her eyes. "He should."
After she left, Xavier lit a cigarette. Once he finished smoking in silence, he contacted his new assistant to investigate the Zenith Tech situation.
That evening, Summer treated Silas to dinner.
Just as the waiter was serving the food, an uninvited guest walked into their private dining room—Xavier.
Summer frowned, instantly losing her appetite at the sight of him. They were just about to eat.
Xavier acted as if he were blind to the unwelcoming stares. "What a coincidence. You guys are eating here too."
Summer ignored him, curious to see what nonsense he was about to spout.
Xavier handed a gift bag to Leo. "Leo, a present for you."
