Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 516

At that exact moment, Xander's car pulled up. His driver stepped out with an umbrella and opened the door.

Silas hadn't gone through the trouble of having his driver deliberately crash the car just to catch a ride with Xander Sterling.

He offered a polite, gentlemanly nod. "I appreciate the offer, Xander, but I think I'll catch a ride with Summer."

Turning his attention to Summer, Silas asked softly, "Summer, could you give me a lift?"

As the host of tonight's dinner, Summer naturally wasn't going to leave Silas stranded.

Besides, the Sinclair and Sterling families were notoriously at odds.

It made perfect sense that Silas wouldn't want to ride in Xander's car.

Without a second thought, Summer smiled and nodded. "Of course."

She looked over at Xander. "Xander, you go ahead. Get home safely."

Xander's fingers curled into tight fists. He shot Silas one last look before sliding into his car.

Through the rearview mirror, Xander watched as Summer's car arrived. Silas opened her door like a perfect gentleman, holding the umbrella out for her.

Silas angled almost the entire canopy over Summer's head, allowing the pouring rain to thoroughly soak his own clothes.

The scene forced a bitter realization down Xander's throat: Silas Sinclair liked Summer. No, it was safe to say he loved her.

Seeing how naturally they interacted, it was obvious they spent a significant amount of time together in private.

Women were deeply intuitive creatures. If they truly despised a man, they would recoil at a mere glance or a slight touch.

The fact that Summer allowed Silas to get this close proved that she had accepted him into her life. She might even have feelings for him.

Once Summer got in, she immediately noticed Silas's drenched clothes. She pulled a dry towel from the glove compartment and handed it to him.

"Dry off. You don't want to catch a cold."

Silas took the towel with a warm smile. "My immune system is ironclad. I barely get sick once a year."

Summer almost reached over to cover his mouth. "Don't say that. You're going to jinx it. Seriously, don't tempt fate."

"Alright," Silas agreed, his heart practically bursting with joy.

Summer cared about him.

While Summer drove Silas home, chaos was unfolding elsewhere...

Lilith's car had been rear-ended in the pouring rain. She ordered Paige Brooks to step out and handle the situation, but the other driver was furious and aggressively demanded compensation.

Paige got into a heated argument with the man. Without warning, the stranger resorted to violence.

With a brutal kick, Paige was sent crashing to the pavement.

Before he could even attempt to get up, the massive man was straddling him.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Heavy, sledgehammer-like fists rained down on Paige's face. Blood sprayed from his nose. Within seconds, Paige was beaten so badly he couldn't even make a sound.

His face was completely mangled, swollen beyond recognition.

"Stop! I've already called the police!" Lilith shouted from the cracked window, screaming at the man's broad back.

The brutal sounds of the beating ceased. The man slowly turned around. Through the curtain of rain, the first thing Lilith saw was his eyes.
