Standing calmly off to the side, Summer lowered her gaze, taking in Lilith's pathetic state with cold detachment. "Lilith, you aren't worth dirtying my hands over. You really don't know who you've offended lately?"
Dexter Whitmore's name flashed in Lilith's mind.
That old bastard was rotten to the core. Rumor had it that his son-in-law had deep ties to the underground syndicates. Sure, they claimed to have gone legitimate over the years, but the connections were undeniably still there.
Regardless of whether it was Summer or Dexter, she swore she wouldn't let either of them off the hook.
Hatred churned violently in Lilith's chest. Her eyes were dark and hollow, like a drowned ghost. "So, you came here specifically to laugh at me."
Summer let out a soft chuckle. "I highly suggest you look in a mirror and see if you're even worth the effort. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way just to watch you make a fool of yourself."
Lilith sneered. She didn't believe a word of it.
There were no coincidences in this world. She was absolutely certain Summer had come explicitly to mock her.
After all, Summer's best friend, Tessa, worked at this very hospital.
The nurse pushing Lilith's wheelchair exchanged a quick greeting with Tessa before rolling her away. As they passed, Lilith shot Tessa a chilling, venomous glare.
Tessa simply rolled her eyes and led Summer straight to Silas's VIP room.
"Summer, what are you doing here?"
Silas was sitting up in bed with an IV drip in his arm, diligently reviewing documents on his laptop. The moment he saw Summer, pure shock registered on his face.
The sheer delight in his eyes was impossible to hide. From the second Summer stepped through the door, his gaze tracked her every move.
Taking it all in, Tessa teased him, "Look at the big boss. Do you really need to push yourself this hard? You're sick, and you're still working?"
Silas's eyes never left Summer. "It's not serious. Just a minor cold."
Tessa purposefully exaggerated, "I heard your fever spiked to 104 degrees. You call that minor?"
Summer's brow furrowed. "A hundred and four?"
