Summer quickened her pace, and Xavier matched her steps.
Summer stopped, and Xavier stopped right beside her.
Summer looked at him in bewilderment, convinced his brain was actually broken.
"Why are you following me? Are we close?"
A flash of hurt crossed Xavier's eyes. "We were married for seven years. Are we not close?"
A look of absolute revulsion appeared in Summer's eyes. "Xavier, are you out of your mind?"
Xavier let out a bitter smile. "Maybe I am."
Otherwise, why would he have recognized the wrong person?
The little girl from his past had been living right under his nose, and he had completely failed to see it.
Seeing him act like this, Summer assumed Lilith had provoked him so badly that he really was having a mental breakdown.
Summer sidestepped him and continued toward the inpatient tower.
Xavier kept trailing behind her.
"Stop following me."
"I'm heading this way too."
It wasn't until Xavier stopped outside Lilith's ward that Summer finally realized.
So he was here to see Lilith.
Xavier was truly deeply attached to Lilith, coming all this way just to visit her.
She had no idea what kind of manipulation Lilith had used to win him back, but it was honestly impressive.
Catching the look in Summer's eyes, Xavier knew she was jumping to the wrong conclusions. He frantically tried to explain, "I'm not—"
But before he could get the words out, the door to the ward swung open, and Lilith stepped out.
Seeing Xavier, Lilith was overwhelmed with joy. Like a happy butterfly, she threw herself into his arms and hugged him tightly.
"Xavier, you finally came to see me! Oh my god, I missed you so much."
