Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 541

Bennett refused to believe his eyes had played tricks on him, and a ghost haunting a monastery in broad daylight was even more impossible.

But Scarlett insisted she hadn't seen anyone, so he turned to a young monk sweeping nearby.

"Brother Thomas, you were sweeping this area just now. Did you see the person standing under that red maple tree?"

"A person?" Brother Thomas scratched his head in confusion. "Sir, I think you must be mistaken. There was no one there."

"No one?"

"Right. It's been empty this whole time."

"Impossible. There was a stunningly beautiful woman in a cheongsam standing right there just a minute ago."

Brother Thomas pressed his palms together and bowed. "Amitabha. Sir, monks do not tell lies. You must have hallucinated."

The monk went right back to sweeping the fallen leaves.

Bennett sat under the bright sun, his body turning icy cold as if his blood had congealed. Even the previously comforting sound of chanting monks now felt incredibly eerie.

He had clearly seen Leila.

Why was this happening?

Scarlett wheeled the dazed Bennett away. When they reached the parking lot, Bennett saw Leila again.

Leila waved at him, flashing a tender smile as she mouthed silently, "I came to see you, Bennett. Did you miss me?"

Her face was breathtaking, an absolute vision.

Yet sheer terror gripped Bennett's soul.

"Leila!"

Bennett seemingly forgot he was in a wheelchair. Trying to rush forward for a closer look, he pitched over and crashed heavily onto the pavement.

"Sir!" Scarlett gasped.

By the time Scarlett helped him up, Leila had already gotten into a car and left.

"Sir, what's wrong with you?" Scarlett asked, lightly brushing the dust off his clothes.

Bennett's face was chalk-white as he pointed straight ahead. "There was a woman right there. Did you see her?"

Scarlett replied delicately, "Sir, are you sure you're just not too exhausted?"

Bennett knew it. Scarlett was going to say there was no one there again.
