He still held six companies in his hands, each one thriving exceptionally well.
Faced with a temptation like that, no one could resist.
He immediately reached out and stopped Summer. "Summer, don't call him. Mr. Sterling threatened me and specifically forbade me from telling you. He said you already hate him enough, and he doesn't want to make it worse."
Bennett was better at spinning tales than a Hollywood screenwriter. Summer watched him with a look of mild amusement. "So, how exactly do you want me to help you?"
"Summer, I'll pretend to transfer the companies over to you. For your sake, Mr. Sterling won't dare target them."
Bennett was certainly dreaming big.
Xavier had ordered him to hand the companies over to her for real, yet here he was, trying to orchestrate a fake transfer while dragging her into a scheme to trick Xavier.
"Sure," Summer agreed with a smile.
It wasn't like Xavier was easy to fool anyway.
When Bennett's little game inevitably blew up in his face, Xavier would probably step in and teach him a brutal lesson himself.
After dinner, Summer got ready to leave.
Before walking out the door, she looked over at Scarlett. "Thanks for everything today, Scarlett. You're an incredible cook."
Scarlett smiled. "I'm glad you liked it, Ms. Vance."
As their eyes met, they both caught the hidden depth in each other's gaze.
Before bed, Scarlett routinely brought Bennett a glass of warm milk.
"Drink some milk to help you sleep, sir."
Bennett initially didn't want it, but recalling the recurring nightmares he'd been having about Leila, he took the glass and downed it in one gulp.
In the dead of night, Bennett jolted awake once again. He had dreamt of Leila.
He dreamt she was burning alive in the flames, screaming his name over and over again.
Scarlett switched on the bedside lamp. "Are you alright, sir?"
Bennett turned and buried his face against Scarlett's chest. "Scarlett."
"I'm here," Scarlett said, gently rubbing his back. Her voice was incredibly soothing, but her face was completely devoid of emotion.
