This surprised everyone. Previously, to accommodate Summer, the team would meticulously explain things; knowing she was fully capable now, they skipped the pleasantries altogether.
Jude whispered, "Did you study the material beforehand?"
Summer nodded. "I couldn't let Gavin down, could I?"
The project was a third of the way done but had hit a technical bottleneck. They had brainstormed numerous ideas, yet none offered a flawless solution.
The purpose of today's meeting was to discuss the upcoming workflow.
If they remained stuck here trying to find a better method, it would inevitably delay the timeline, and the contract had a strict delivery date.
Missing the deadline wouldn't just mean a breach of contract; it would damage the company's reputation.
But if they defaulted to a previously discussed backup plan, they would be settling for less than a hundred percent resolution. More importantly, it risked leaving hidden flaws that could cause massive setbacks down the line.
The project team was split into two factions, arguing fiercely, but neither side could convince the other.
Gavin's head ached. Seeing that the meeting was about to devolve into pointless bickering again, he tapped his hand on the table.
Once the room quieted down slightly, he looked at Summer. "Summer, do you have any good suggestions?"
All eyes instantly turned to her.
Summer stood up and cast her laptop screen to the projector. "I actually have a new approach. Hear me out..."
Two hours later, using Summer's new concept as a foundation, the team brainstormed together and solved the problem perfectly.
The conference room doors swung open. Everyone was buzzing with excitement, eagerly discussing ideas as they walked out, their passion for the work reignited.
Jude followed Summer into her office.
Summer sat down in her chair and raised an eyebrow. "Need something?"
"Summer," Jude said, leaning both hands on her desk, his eyes sparkling as he looked at her. "Give me your number."
Ever since Summer had proposed that new approach in the meeting, Jude had been looking at her differently.
The two of them shared the same mentor and were now colleagues.
Summer readily exchanged numbers with him.
At noon, while eating in the FutureTech Systems cafeteria, Summer received a call from the police station.
"You caught the guy who smashed my car?" Summer hadn't expected it to be so fast. She said gratefully, "Thank you so much, officer."
"Just doing our job, ma'am. Ms. Vance, when would you be available to come down to the station?"
"Okay, I'll head over shortly."
Seeing Summer hang up, Gavin, who was sitting across from her, asked, "Your car got smashed?"
Summer nodded, joking as she ate, "Boss, I need to make a trip to the police station. I might be a little late getting back this afternoon. You're not going to dock my pay, are you?"
Jude sipped his soup and chimed in with an idea. "If he docks your pay, just go tattle to the old professor. He'll definitely set him straight."
