Xavier instinctively recalled the moment Leo had coldly referred to him as 'Mister.' He didn't argue, simply nodding in agreement.
After calming the Sterling family, Xavier didn't linger and drove straight back to the office.
The company was trending online today, and the PR fallout was significant. He had to handle it personally.
It wasn't until Xavier returned to Sterling Group that he realized Paige Brooks had tied Summer up.
Looking at Summer slumped on the floor, Xavier frowned. "Why did you tie her up? And leave her on the floor?"
Even though the floor was carpeted, it was autumn, and lying there for too long would cause a chill. Besides, Summer looked absolutely awful.
She didn't respond to his voice, completely knocked out. Her hair was drenched in cold sweat, plastered to her pale face in clumps. Her brows were furrowed in obvious agony.
She looked pitiful and utterly defeated.
Xavier's heart softened as he knelt to untie the ropes.
During the process, he accidentally brushed against Summer's injured hand. She let out a pained whimper, her frown deepening, but she still didn't wake up.
Assuming her hands were just stiff from the bindings, Xavier deliberately lightened his touch.
Once the ropes were off, he scooped Summer up in his arms and gently laid her on the plush sofa, brushing a damp strand of hair from her face. "Why didn't you take her to the hospital?"
"When I left, didn't I tell you to get her medical attention?"
Paige couldn't stand seeing Xavier care so much for Summer. Even if Summer was his legal wife, it made Paige sick to her stomach.
In her mind, Lily Sutton was the only woman who deserved to be Xavier's wife!
Seizing the opportunity, Paige recounted everything that had happened, sparing no detail.
Hearing that Summer had faked fainting, shoved Lily to the ground after he left, and even threatened to call the police...
Every ounce of sympathy Xavier felt vanished without a trace.
Right on cue, Zelda Sterling called. She complained that Summer wasn't answering her phone and demanded to know where she was.
Zelda was ready to send Summer away to learn some strict etiquette.
And why hadn't she told him about this 'retreat' beforehand?
"Where is she?" Leo demanded. "Put her on the phone. I want to hear it from her."
Xavier glanced at the unconscious Summer. "She's unavailable right now."
Unrelenting, Leo pressed, "Why is she unavailable?"
Xavier's patience snapped. "Leo, don't make me repeat myself. Go to the manor."
The line went dead. Leo tugged on his teacher's sleeve. "Teacher, I don't know that woman out there."
The teacher's face paled instantly.
This was the most elite private kindergarten in Empire City. Every child here was practically royalty.
Instantly on high alert, the teacher radioed the security guards at the gate, ordering a full lockdown.
