Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 90

Paige scoffed dismissively. "Let her sleep; it'll keep her quiet. Don't worry about a thing. Once Mr. Sterling hears she pushed you, he'll fully support what I did."

Meanwhile, at the Sterling family estate.

Carlson was resting in bed while Xavier listened to the doctor's report.

The old man wasn't in serious physical danger; the fainting spell had been induced by extreme anger.

Relieved, he nodded to the medical team. "Thank you."

Once the doctor left, he looked at his grandfather. "It was just a minor glitch. Was it really worth working yourself up like this?"

"A minor glitch?" Carlson glared at him with cloudy yet predatory eyes. "When Summer was in charge, we never had a disaster of this magnitude. The second that woman steps foot in the building, everything falls apart. The Prophet was right all those years ago. She is a curse on this family."

The older generation was fiercely superstitious. When Xavier's older brother had his catastrophic car accident, the family had exhausted every cutting-edge medical treatment available, yet he never woke from his coma.

In desperation, Carlson had turned to mysticism, hiring spiritual advisors to divine when his grandson would wake.

They restructured the estate's gardens and altered the feng shui, but ultimately, Father Elias declared that Lily's astrological chart was toxic and actively cursing the family line. Exiling her abroad had been his specific recommendation.

The Prophet had promised that if they kept her far away, the comatose brother would eventually awaken. They just needed patience.

Xavier scoffed softly. "It's been seven years and he still hasn't woken up. Why are you still listening to that fraud?"

"It's the truth!" Carlson shot back. "This whole fiasco today was entirely because of her incompetence!"

He wanted Xavier to teach her a harsh lesson she wouldn't soon forget.

Understanding exactly what the old man implied, Xavier said, "I'll make sure she learns her place."

"You?" Zelda chimed in from the side. "Her total lack of respect is entirely your fault for spoiling her. What could you possibly teach her? I, however, know exactly how to instill some discipline."

Carlson nodded in agreement. "She really has lost all sense of decorum lately. She needs to be brought to heel. Zelda, as her mother-in-law, take charge of this. We cannot let her humiliate the family name in public."

Zelda nodded eagerly. "Don't worry, Dad. I'll handle it."

Carlson added, "And bring Leo back here. If she acts like this, she has absolutely no business raising my great-grandson."
