Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 352

Chapter 352

Lilian’s POV

Panic flashed through me. No! How could this be happening? We had just been reunited.

I held Grayson, trying to keep him upright as he collapsed, but he was too heavy. I was able to slow his fall though, protecting his head as we slid down to the ground.

Suddenly, there were others beside me. I didn’t know how long they had been there. I hadn’t seen anyone but Grayson in my return, the bond so full and bright between us.

Prime Beta eased Grayson away from me, placing him flat on the ground. He checked Grayson’s pulse.

“Is he alright?” I asked. “Tell me he’s okay.”

“He’s breathing. His pulse is fluttering but there,” Prime Beta said.

Reginald was to one side of me, and Josephine was on the other. They each wrapped an arm around me. Any other time, I would have been happy to see them. Right now, with Grayson having a medical emergency, I couldn’t feel anything but bone-deep worry.

Prime Beta signaled a guard, and soon healers came. I felt like I was in a haze.

How was this happening? I had found my way back. Everything was supposed to be okay now.

The healers put Grayson on a gurney and started to carry him off. I followed, like I was in a trance, grateful that Reginald and Josie were both there to help me. Josie was almost as much a mess as I was. We held onto each other, holding each other together, while Reginald looked over us both.

In the medical ward, a nurse attempted to stop us from following Grayson farther.

“I have to be with him,” I insisted.

“Please. Let the healers do their work. We’ll let you in after.”

“No, I need to be there.”

“I’m sorry, ma’am, but -”

“No!” I shouted.

“Lillian,” Reginald said calmly. “Allow the healers to do their job. We would only get in the way.’

I wasn’t thinking clearly. I only knew they were trying to keep me away from the man I had fought so hard to

return to.

“Lily, please,” Josie said in a tiny, broken voice. Yet it rung clearly in my head, more so than Reginald’s or anyone else’s.

She was the one to break through the shock.

I nodded at the nurse. I’d apologize later. For now, I stumbled back and moved to the waiting room with Reginald and Josie. We sat huddled together. Prime Beta was there too, but he spent much of the time consulting with messengers who came to see him.

“I can’t lose him now,” I said.

“He’s a strong bastard,” Reginald said. “And he loves you. You are not going to lose him to this. He’s far too Stubborn to die now.”

As crass as the words were, I found comfort in them. Grayson was strong. He had fought so hard to bring me back. Even now, I could feel our bond strumming, healthy and complete, even if Grayson wasn’t.

He was exhausted more than anything. The exertion of breaking the necklace prison must have taken everything that he had. But he wouldn’t give up on me, on us, on this life he fought for us to have.

He would recover. He had to.

And this time, being together, everything would be different.

No more running.

I would stand proudly at his side and we would raise our family together.

I would never leave him again.

Hours later, the nurse came forward. She was winded, like she’d run here. “He’s awake, and he’s asking for you.”

I jumped to my feet and ran, following the pull of my heart to his exact room. He was inside, trying to push his way off of the hospital bed. Several healers were trying to convince him to stay in bed.

“You need your rest, Alpha.”

“Please stay still. Those bones are still healing.”

“Get out of my way! I have to get to Lily!”

“I’m here,” I said from the doorway.

Our eyes met.

At once, everything changed.

Grayson relaxed back on his bed. I rushed forward and took both of his hands in mine. We held on.

“Be careful with him,” the healer told me. “He’s broken nearly every bone in his body. His muscles are strained. He is in tremendous pain -”

“I’m fine now,” Grayson said, his hands gripping mine. “I thought you might have gone again. Or been a dream.”

“No,” I said. “I’m here. I’m right here where I belong.”

There was a bandage on his chest, covering a large section over his heart.

As the healers and nurses left the room, I asked him, “What’s that?”

He looked down. “Oh. I guess at the initial hit with the hammer, some of the pendant broke off and lodge itself in my chest.”

“Grayson -”

“It’s fine, Lily. I’ll wear it proudly. A symbol of your freedom from that place.”

My heart ached, but love overruled everything. Leaning in, I kissed him. The kiss lingered, perfect.

“I’ll heal quickly,” he said. “Faster with you here beside me.”

He wasn’t wrong. Only a handful of hours later, he was well enough to leave the medical ward.

Hand in hand, we returned to the palace, walking to the residential wing. There, the kids were waiting.

“Mommy!” they cried, and I fell to my knees, both to hold them and out of sheer relief at being able to again. They ran to my arins, and we all held each other and cried. Grayson kneeled down too, and held all of us in his strong

embrace.

For this perfect moment, we finally felt like a family.

We stayed with the children until bedtime, and then even a bit after that, none of us wanting to separate. But soon, the kids’ yawns won out, and they fell asleep mid bedtime story.

Grayson and I quietly left the room.

I glanced at the door that was once our bedroom, that was sure to be ours again.
