Mutant parasites, nearly invisible, floated through the air like specks of dust, ready to invade any warm body. Hovercars pulled up one after another at the entrance, and guests dressed to the nines stepped out.

The whole street was jam-packed with hovercars, not a single space left open.

She held Lioren, the big cat, in her arms; Rafe, Clive, and Elmer flanked her, with Mindy standing on her other side. “Let’s go,” Dora said, cradling the cat in her arms as she took the lead toward the entrance.

Dora held Elmer back, her voice calm. “This invitation came from the Shawn family, didn’t it?”

“And doesn’t it clearly say ‘plus family’? Did you miss that, or are you just ignoring it?” Dora challenged.

The receptionist’s face froze for a second, but he quickly recovered. “Yes, it does say that.

“But ‘family’ here means the Sterling family only.

“As for you folks…”

He glanced over Dora, Clive, Elmer, and Mindy, then finally settled on the “cat,” his smile dripping with sarcasm.

Then he said, “Sorry, but I don’t see a single Sterling family member among you.”

Mindy’s temper flared. She realized he was just making things difficult on purpose. “Seriously, what’s that supposed mean?

Vivienne was dressed in a luxurious deep purple gown, looking regal and dignified.

Iris trailed behind her, still looking timid as ever, but when she spotted Dora, her eyes lit up a little.

Felix was in a silver combat suit, radiating confidence. He glanced over the tense scene at the entrance, his brow furrow slightly.

Vivienne handed her invitation to the receptionist, her voice calm but laced with the kind of confidence only a true leader

has.

“And what happens if you add mine?” she said, coolly.

The receptionist froze for a moment, caught off guard.

“Dora is my daughter,” Vivienne said, her voice calm but laced with a commanding authority that brooked no argument

“And Rafe is my son-in-law.

“My daughter and her beast mates, aren’t they part of my family?

“Two invitations. That should be more than enough to bring in all my family, don’t you think?”
